Have a look and if you have any questions give me a yell.

more progress - well if you call filling and sanding progress then it is. Hate sanding but required evil.

Sanded off high spots and filled in sheet seams then sanded back again and went over them sideways with the bar sander then fill again. Labourious job. Started putting fillet in between fin and stab.

Dorsal fin is on and mostly sanded to shape. Applied filler to the fillet area of dorsal fin. Note I will put on a thin layer to replicate the dorsal fin sheeting after glassing.

So now waiting on more filler to dry then back to sanding. Might get onto the the intercooler doors tomorrow.

cheers
Peter

Been slack, not a lot of progress to look at since last post except to say that all the sanding and filling of the sheeted area is now done. This includes all the stab and fin fillets including those on the dorsal fin.

I have one of the intercooler doors completed and just waiting on a bit of filler to set so I can smooth it in.

Next the other intercooler door then on to the engine mount. Bloody fiddly things those doors but first one is coming along nicely.

Don't have the G62 yet but a friend of mine has a trashed one I can have to use for mounting, C0fG etc. Just can't run it!

Catch you later.
cheers
Peter

Hmm just took the canopy out of it's little box and say it on the fuz - it does look a tad small and not as high as it should.

Wonder if there are any after market ones out there in the correct size for this kit? anyone know? Aerotech said their one fits but I'd like to know for sure before parting with any readies ( readies = $$$).

I could always get their canopy and the sliding kit, pylons, bombs and chin inlet divider - shhh don't tell her indoors who controls the budget. She controls it, I just spend it!!
cheers

Peter,
I'm almost caught up with you. Got back on mine last week. That double spar looks interesting. You think it might be a good idea to extend that rear spar another 2 bays to create a better box support for the retract hinge point? Just a thought. I like your idea there. I have heard the Yellow canopy is a good substitute for the TF bubble. But last time I checked it was $80. Not interested at that price. Hadnt heard about the Aerotech canopy. My plans are to enter mine in sport scale at the next local scale masters qualifier just to get my feet wet. I want this one to be an everyday flier, so I wont go TOO overboard. But it would be nice to experiment a little. Will also make my own retracts for this one. Bought a lathe and mill last year and this is a good first project for it.

Hi Edwin,
glad to see you are back at it.

Still not finished with designing the the subspars and won't be till the fuz is off the bench and I can lay out the plans and work things out properly. At this stage they are all just concepts running around in my head like a pack of mongrol dogs

first I need to do though is get my 3 views plown up to the correct size. I did work it out and it is about 1:5.5 ish. Exact numbers are scribled on the 3 views at home. Once I have these 3 views blown up I can then overlay them on the plans to get exact locations for the retracts and wheel well. Lets hope Topflite were close to scale in the wing outline or else I'm gunna scream!!

always wanted to learn how to use a lathe and mill. Played with them in highschool but that was many moons ago. Maybe when I'm totally bored with nothing better to do I'll do a night course at TAFE. Yeah right - free time?

Anyway good luck with those retracts and hopefully soon I'll be posting some wing pics and design stuff on here.

cheers
Peter

Hi guys, hope you don't mind me joining your thread.
I am finaly getting back to my P-47. It has been sitting in my basement 1/2 built for about two years. I keep getting distracted with other projects, 3 to be exact. Now it is time to get her done. I will post pics as I progress. To date the top of the fuse is built. Top of wings are complete. I am now just playing with the retract area. I have glassed it, added some ribs to the inside of the wheel wells. Painting it is next followed by all the other little details.

Craig.

G'day Craig,
welcome aboard. Your 47 is coming along nicely. I like the idea of the little ribs in the wheel wells, I way toying with doing something similar but using that plastic stuff you get in the hobby shops. all sorts of sizes and shapes so it should be good for that kind of detail.

I know NEO did similar things with that SBD of his that won all the awards.

Anyway been slack as usual so not much to report. One intercooler door is finished and the bits cut ready for the other side. Filling and sanding completed as it the dorsal fin.

Hope to get motivated tomorrow.

cheers
Peter

Yours is looking good. I was debating whether or not I should do the intercooling doors as well. I think I will after looking at yours. It will add to the detailing, and it is easier to do it now instead of later.

Craig

Question for you guys, probably the first of many.

I am about to install the balsa blocks on the trailing edge for the flaps. There has been plenty of guys who have installed these wrong and have had to go back into the wing to fix the problem. I have been playing around trying to find the best way that they go in. Keeping in mind that the bottom needs to be aligned with the bottom sheeting, I am not to sure of how it fits in. I have attached a pic of the only way that seems feasable, however there is a gap from the top of the block to the top sheeting. Filler pieces could be added to get rid of the space for a good mount.
Hope you guys can help me out.

Craig.
