Edwin,
Sorry about the mix up on the firewall offset. I almost did the same. The plane is upside down and the sides are reversed. Luckily I double checked it before gluing the crutches on.

ewww I'd better double check my offset too. Just about to start on all of that.
thanks guys
oi whats a garage door without the odd kick mark or dent. Better then kicking the cat/dog. Mind you we have been getting stray cats spraying under our deck of late so I'm about to go looking for a 12 guage!!

glad you got it sorted out. Checked mine and it is definitely pointing to the right . Havent glued the firewall bits yet as I /am going to double the thickness. Just dont think that sheet is thick enough to handle a G62 for long periods.
cheers Peter

hey guys i finally started building on mine again workin on the belly pan and wing fillets and the flaps, i had the same issue wit the flap blocks, i would sya scrap the ones u have and but in square ones that fit flush with the with the bottom of the wing(unsheeted part) so your hinges have somethin to bite into
Hey guys. This thread has been real quiet lately. I have slowly been doing a little to my P-47. Wing crutches are placed and glued. Just need to pick up the Robart retractable tail wheel then I can carry on with the fuselage. Main wing is joined, still need to route the retract lines and do a little cleaning up. The wing is pretty big as well as the fuselage. Lots of dihedral thats for sure. I am in no rush to finish and fly it this year. I have two new birds to fly this year so I can take my time. I do have a question regarding your receiver antenna. Are you guys putting it inside the fuse, and if so are you concerned about interferance from the metal push rods for the elevator and rudder?

I finished the rework on the firewall box and the intercooler doors. I also assembled the cowl and now need to do the cowl mounts. This is to double check my work on the firewall box. Plan on starting the wing this weekend after a delta dart session with the Civil Air Patrol cadets. Really enthusiastic bunch of kids. Edwin

I'm convinced. The TF GS P-47D is my next project as soon as I get tired of my latest love Top Flite's Stinson Reliant, SR-9. I beefed up the landing gear from a two-piece to a one-piece fixture. Heck, maybe I ought get started on my P-47D and take a year to build. By then I should be tired of the Stinson. Maybe not but get started anyway?!
Yoo-hoo! Oh dear!? May I talk to you? Ain't that how it's done guys?

Peter, I havnt flown mine yet but have done engine runs and range check. So far no problem. My terminal ends on the push rods are Du-bro captive ball set up, so there is insulation(plastic). Maybe this matters maybe not. I have run alot of antennas inside fuses with metal push rods and never had an issue. I just never cross the antenna over the metal. Kirk

G'day Canuk, yes been I've been busy on other stuff at home so not a lot of time for this. Got a bit done today.
Bit of filler around the last of the intercooler doors and will blend that in tomorrow with some luck.
I have assembled and glued together the bits for the crutch doublers and now have the doublers epoxied in place. Currently they are downstairs curing with suitable bracing - see pics.
Firewall sheets are epoxied together but wiating to get hold of aG62 to do the measure up for the mounts. A friend has a trashed one he is going to lend me for that purpose and hope to get it Sunday (Fri now). So untill I get my hands on that there isn't a lot more I can do for the moment.
I wont start on the wing till I clear the fuz out of the way.
Yours is coming laong nicely, you are right that is a big bloody wing and with that dihedral it should fly very placidly.
hmmm good question on the RX AE. I will run a bit of flex tube down the guts and do a range check with motor running. If I'm at all concerned by it I'll simply run it under the belly with a bit of tape here and there. No one will see it so stop grimacing.
Main concern is not getting the RX AE or any other electronics any where near the engine so no RF interferrence from the spark causes probs.
Edwin: glad you got that sorted out. I nearly panicked when I read your earlier post but have checked, re checked then checked again against the plans to makes sure I'm certain it's correct and it is is. We have RAAF air cadets here too and they are pretty good mob of kids except when you are actually in the RAAF itself and they get to the meal queue before you - bloody ants! . Group of the instructors with the cadets are trying to get me involved and I prob will work permitting. I hate to committ to something then have to say sorry because I have a short notice work trip on.
airbatic: Get tired of a Stinson? Are you nuts? Seriously go buy the P47 and enjoy the build, take your time, who cares how long it takes. By the way it's not" yoo honey can I buy this? It's "hello dear look what I just bought!! " isn't possesion 9/10th of the law or something like that.
Kirk: Mate I'd be real surprised if it caused any probs. I'm also using those captive ball links things, big bolt through the guts and no slop. How far did you range check it for? AE down I'd be looking for at least 100m (thats about 100yards to you lot).
Like you all my AEs are inside the fuz and never had a prob.
Anyway off to pick up the little man from day care. He should be about ready for afternoon mischief by now.

Airbatic, You order the kit and have it shipped to work or a friends house. Then sneak it in the garage (or where ever) and when she notices, you just tell her she's not very observant. Its been there for years. Edwin

Peter, The triangle stock you put on the firewall box is gonna get in the way of the cowl ring (made out of the 5/8"x2"x36" stock). I was going over that section last night cause I was almost gonna do what you did. The cowl rings have notches cutout for the four corners of the box. I cut out those pieces last night and dry fitted. I still plane on putting in some triangle stock but will have to wait until the cowl ring is done which also has to wait until the bottom forward section of the fuse and the belly pan is done. Clear as mud?
I cleared a workbench last night to start the wing this saturday. While the wing parts are drying I will finish up detail work on the fuse.
