Moki 180 2.10 users, did ya use the stock plastic motor mount or go with the Moki backplate ? My MS w/moki 180 is very nose heavy.

KC, Almost all WM GS P-51s come out nose heavy if you build it per the instructions. I would mount the elevator servo in the tail to balance it without adding lead. Pics of this mod on my webpage

Used the radial backplate mount on my 1.80. By putting the battery just above the airscoop /radiator I did not have to add any addl. ballast.

    Hey Maximus,

Where are you? Haven't heard from you lately and was wondering how your Mustang is flying. Thanks again for your and Evan's great gear replacement pics and comments. Let's hear from you.

    Sam

Chinook, just finishing her up. I posted pictures a few replies back. I don't know if you saw them. I balanced the plane tonight and was somewhat surprised. I used the big Irvine 1.50 which is about the same weight as the recommended O.S. 1.60. Ended up real nose heavy. Weird. Ended up putting my 5 cell 1400SC pack all the way back in the end of the tail under the vertical fin. Balanced where the manual says there. I had to make a little access panel on the bottom of the fuse. Worked ok though. Is the balance point indicated in the manual right? Also, how are the recommended control throws? Hoping the weather holds out so I can give her a whirl. How do the flaps help out on landings? Good I hope. How much flap is everyone using? Later for now, Maximus

I know this thread has been around a while but I wanted to revive it. I just got my WM GS P-51D. It has the updated spring loaded gear and the addendum to install the elevator servos in the tail. Planning on a Moki 2.10 Will have to go back through the thread and see how it balances with this combo. Any tips or advice after these have been in the air a while?? Thanks, Dave

I'm going to test mine tomorrow with a Moki 1.8. It is an older version and I replaced the gear with Spring Air 404s. I have not flown it yet and hope all is well at the end of the day. No flaps and I re-balanced it after I added the gear, needed some lead in the belly pan.

Great thread you guys. I have the original gear in mine and not happy with the performance or the looks. I feel like the airplane has Egret legs for landing gear. I have an OS 160 FX in mine and it flies great. Add more weight for the optional gear and not sure. Hm..... Anyways, here are a couple pictures. As you can see, great looking airplane except for the gear. Aargh! I have got to change this. Just to nice of an airplane to fly with these ugly legs.
