Hello
My father is about to buy a wild hare Extra 300 and prefers the special over the LX version, although he will be using it in IMAC competitions so he needs to know if the 300 special is IMAC legal. I know this probably has been talked about in the past but I can't find any relevant threads.

Thanks Anthony.

Based on the wording of the IMAC rules, I would say yes. The plane does not have to be a 100% scale replica or have the exact lines of the real thing (none of us would be flying if that were the case) As long as it can be interpreted to resemble by at least one judge you are OK. I have seen some pretty bad examples (pass) the test so the great looking special should be fine. I have seen these planes from time to time at IMAC events here in the states so I am pretty sure you are OK... most of them fly in basic.

I would have an IMAC judge concur with me however if you feel there is any doubt...

There is a full scale Extra 300 with shoulder wing. Dave Patrick designed the Goldberg kit for it. Flew in many IMAC contests. I see no reason the Wildhare shoulder wing Extra shouldn't be considered scale enough.

The Extra 300 was the first two-place production aircraft built by Walter Extra's company in 1988, many examples were built. There was an after-market modification that was done to a few of them that involved just placing a single place canopy over the "two-hole" fuse. The owner could at any time put the two-place canopy back on at any time without much work. These aircraft were called Extra 300 "Special" by their owners, it was not a name or modification endorsed (as far as I know) by Extra Aircraft LLC.
But to answer your question, is it legal? Yes, all aircraft types that have flown in a IAC or other full scale aerobatic contest or are know to be capable of flying a competition sequence within the "aerobatic box" are legal for IMAC contest.
