Hi Guys,
You got yours on monday Aussie? Means mine cant be too far away now. I haven't heard from PA regarding the delivery date other than they were expecting them on the third. With Easter coming fast I'm expecting mine early next week. I can't wait to get it. Unfortunately I have to clear out the workshop so I can start assembling it.

I'm going with:
DA50 w/- slimline pitts
5985's on elev & ail
5955 on rudder
jr770pcm reciever
jr/graupner mx22 for the sticks
NimH all round

no opto isolators etc as I want to keep it around 6kg
haven't decided on an engine cutoff yet, any suggestions?

Thanks for all you guys posting your aircraft and problems/fixes here. It should make my first gasser a lot of fun to assemble.

Cheers,
Thom

here are a quick few pics

kiowawarrior2
For kill switch im going with smart fly as it is very simple to install and it is one of the best, i havent heard any bad issues with this and i know a few fliers that use them and swaer by them also
PA stock them, i think its about 100 bucks or something im not too sure i cant remember...
i actually bought everything few PA the only thing i never bought thrugh them is a reciever and that because i already had one, but now im going to have to soon get one from them as the wait got me bored hehe so i bought another glow plane hehe then there went my reciever hehe

Aussie,
Colours look good. Would look a whole lot sweeter finished. Mine will be here next week. I'll probably go with the smart fly cutt-off.Can't seem to find any others out there. I have heard of using a servo operating a switch, I'm just not sure about that. I'll see what the other guys around here use and maybe go with that.

The only problem with that Servo operating cut off is that it adds Un necessary weight, i wouldnt be using that as it is more problems than what its worth
http://shop.desertaircraft.com.au/catalogue/c15/p96
Check this one out... its still 100 bucks and i have never heard of it, though smart fly everyone talks about and basically worships this kill switch and same price ..

Yuh hopefully i can get this plane finished this w/e.! i have to build my dad's trainer first ( Nearly done ) then i can start mine though i think this will take less than 2 days too build...

another option so you don't need a kill switch is to use a servo for the choke that also works good as a motor cut off and it doesnt costs as much!

Thanks Daniel,
Here in aust to fly IMAC you must have a means of turning the engine off besides the use of the throttle. And I believe the choke will satisfy that requirement. I'll check and see, but seems like a very logical solution.

Aussie,
Hope you get a good go at it to get it finished and flying soon. I'll check out the link for the cut-off.

I'm still waiting to hear when my edge will show up. I called the freight carrier and they couldn't find my shipment using the reference number I gave them. They said they'd call back but never did. I'm hoping this is just an inept call centre operator and not an issue with my kit arriving in the right place. But, she did say 3-5 working days, so wednesday should be the latest it'll arrive.

Have a good Easter guys,
Thom

you are right about having a secondary engine cutoff. i have used setco switches since my first gasser, and havn't had a problem with any of them.
a choke servo is ok too.
tell what frieght company you are dealing with. i have been in the buisseness for 20 odd years. i may be able to point you in right direction. nothing worse than some empty head on the other end of a phone who doesn't know or care what it's like to be waiting for a new airframe to turn up.
i hope you guys enjoy your edges as much as i did. it was my firsrt gasser and i learnt so much with it.

not sure on this version but on mine i thought the throttle arm was way too long and it had a bit of flex in it. if i were to do one again i'd try and mount it up in front of the wing tube.
what kill switch are you going use?

looks great Aussie.
I like the way you set it up. Hope mine goes together as quickly. If it ever gets here, Greyhound freight has no idea when my kit will arrive, or even where it is. I sit on hold for 10min then they say my reference number doesn't work and then they can't find the shipment by using PA's details or mine. Might be the cheapest freight around. But is certainly a case of you get what you pay for.
On a more positive note, my engine will be here in a couple of days. Although, the muffler is on backorder. PA should be back friday, so if the kit hasn't turned up by then, I'll get PA to crack some heads and sort it out for me.
I know the kit will be worth it in the end, but makes me wonder if someone out there doesn't like me.

Thom

Hi Guys,

It looks like there a quite a few of these PA Edges around the Sydney area. What do you think about meeting up and swapping stories, helping each other out and just generally flying.

My Edge is performing extremely well but I do not have any other 3d Flyers in the club to work with.

I am located in Sydneys West.

Regards

Carps
