Status: offline 		The YS 60 engine I have for sale is brand new and unrun. It has only been out of the box a half dozen times to be looked at. It is rear exhaust configuration, short stroke and is complete with all manuals. I even have the engine report from RCM.

I would like a minimum of $160 for the engine plus UPS insured shipping (about $10). I talked with Performance Specialties about the engine a year or so ago and apparently they can still support it with most of the parts.

Status: offline 		When you're building (so nicely) a vintage aeroplane why not go the whole hog and get the correct vintage engine set-up.
Get a Webra .61 speed and pipe. MECOA (Model Engine Comapny of America) have them. Fantastic engine... get on the pipe and wake up the sleepy old Club members!

That is the nice thing about Rossi engines. Still have the look with alot more power. Nothing beats The Rossi's "Crackle" when on a tuned pipe.

Wings are fully sheeted and fuselage rough shaped. Control surfaces hinged and dry fitted.
I built wheel wells from scrap balsa and painted the inside white with epoxy paint.
The fairings are from balsa blocks and I feathered them into the fuselage with light spacke filler.
The frame is very lightweight but strong.

I suspect I'll have two retract servos as I don't see how I can easily have the same servo driving the main gears and nose gear.

Ari,

It looks like you are doing a great building job! Life doesn’t get much better than building and flying a Curare 60 kit. The Tipo, Phoenix, Blue Angel, Kaos and taper wing Qwik Flis are pretty great too. All from the era when pattern aircraft were the very best and didn’t all look the same like they do now. The Curare era aircraft fly like rocket ships cutting though the sky like lasers. Sadly, pattern aircraft now-a-days look like they are slightly modified Lanier Stingers with tapered wings.

I did change it from a trike geared to a tail dragger and have been bummed about it since. I may build another to get the trike gear. I cut a foam core for the wing per plans. I did not want to hook up all of the links so I went with 2 servos for the alierons and 2 HS-81MG servos for the flaps.

I am using Airtronics 94102 for the alierons and a 94731 for elevator and rudder. For throttle and gear switch I am using 2 more HS-81MG's.

I have had it built for over a year and have yet to get it in the air. The Webra had been sitting for so long I need to replace the front bearing. It is pretty rough buty the rest of the engine is clean.

I would be bummed out too if I made one of these classics into a tail dragger. I’d build a new wing right away before anyone sees you with it (grin). I expect most people realize that tail draggers suck, but they won’t admit it. I’ve got to give you a lot of credit for recognizing your mistake.

Thanks for keep the “real” pattern aircraft alive!

Status: offline 		The ONLY and I mean ONLY reason was to save weight. Yea I did save some, but it was not worth it. I will take the weight penalty next time no matter what. The worst part, in the end I was able to save as much weight in other areas as the extra gear and wheel would weight. Just going with the ultra lite foam wheels saved a bunch. Using carbon fiber push rods, 1/8 inch balsa sides and a balsa sheeted foam turttle deck saved the rest.

Status: offline 		just an FYI - MK did not kit the Atlanta. I believe IMproducts (another Japanese company) kitted it. A great kit - the fiberglass fuse was excellent and the pre-sheeted foam surfaces were very nicely done and STRAIGHT.

The fuse and wings are fully framed and rough sanded. Retracts are temporarily fitted and next is to start getting servos and other electronics in.

Zigsaw Models kitted the Atlanta. I will never forget it as it was the first pattern ship I'd ever seen that came with the wings sheeted, LE and TE shaped....was such a time saver.. and they flew beautifully. I've got one here... but it is waiting for a bit more open time frame.

BTW, Zigsaw also kitted the Omega 60 which looked a bit like an EU1 A.. but smaller. Both great kits. Why Zigsaw gave up on the market is beyond me. Our LHS sold every one they could get in from Golden Gate Hobbies. Remember that name???? Age showing now.....

Would love to see a picture of your finished Currare. My dad used to fly one in Hong Kong with a Webra Speed 61, Rev-up 11 x 7 prop, and A Kraft Signature Series radio. A rocket ship and a top notch engine.

Anyone out there building more of these 70's kits? Atlas, Fuji, Blue Angel?

Status: offline 		I noticed your message about a Corare. I recently acquired what I believe to be a original Corare. It has a fiberglass fuse. and is equiped with retracts. My problem is that the plane was never finished, and I have no building plans for it. Does anybody have building plans or even a picture of the insides. I need to know where the air tank goes and the mounting plans for the servo's.

Heres my Curare, built from scratch off a plan in 1980 but only finished in 2000!!. Still trying to figure out how to use the airbrakes. Webra Speed61 & Futaba FF9 (8 servos). It weighs about 8 lb. The flaps halve its landing speed and most people are amazed how slow it can fly when they feel the weight. With flaps up, gear up, and the webra on the pipe, it makes like a missile. I now use a perry pump driven from the crankcase pressure which gives very consistent runs. I use a return system with a tee next to the carb so what the engine doesnt use is fed back to the tank.

I just love flying this model
Ive also nearly finished a Magic with a webra 61 longstroke rear ex.

Your Curare looks great!

Your application of the flaps is different than the one I built in the late 70's. The airbrake on mine was part of the flap and extended forward from the flap. When the flap was lowered, the spoiler being and extension of the flap was lifted into the airstream. Not that yours probably doesn't work, just different. The plane was a great lander.

I am just starting a scratch built Curare. Have a Jett .91 FIRE (same case size as a .61) with pipe for it. It should really motivate it.

I remember the same as you; very fast plane; fun to fly. Can't wait to get it in the air.
