Hey J - Wish you were closer so could take lessons from you. You obviously are traveling in good company with your dad and granddad.

Nice job J-T-L......that shocky seems fun to fly. Awesome..haha hovering without half elevator,
takes good skill to do that........you'll be a really good pilot as time progresses
It is nice to see 3 generations getting together to fly and hangout....don't loose the opportunity to bond...........most of us don't have that opportunity.
I installed the ski's on the Laser last nite....will see how it flies off wet snow
Cheers.

Kaz - Don't know what kind of skis you are using but trick I picked up from some of our guys. Spray the bottoms or areas that come in contact with the snow with one of the cooking spray, i.e., PAM, Mazola, etc. Cold as it is you may have to carry it in a pocket close to the bod. Sure you can handle that with a little imagination.

Happy New Year All

Hi Harc, thanks for the info......I did take the PAM out to the field.....it was actually ice instead of wet snow......oooohhhhh maaannnnnnn, everyone's plane was skating all over on landing...hehe....was a hoot to see...yeeeehaaaaaa should I take the laser up or not...hmmmm, decisions decisions...well, ok...for one flight. Right? Decided not to spray the bottom of ski's..since the field was a skating rink.....took off, what a sweet flier....not a trim adjustment.. couldn't believe it. This time...I knew that I may not make it with the landing....so what the heck, hovers...naahhhh, won't do that, but cuban 8's, rev cuban 8's, immelman's, split s's and inverted flight. This plane rolls on a dime...very fast on high rates. Ok, time to land...cut throttle and lined her up.....coming in, no burp, touch down....hey....wha the heck....won't stop....running out of field....accelerate, take off...phew....bloody ice...everyone excited, running out to me with advice...man O man....tried again.....won't stop, lift off again.....holy s^^^, what to do...hmmm, think quick.....engine stutters...quits....oh man, now you're in dudu...dead stick....floating, floating, turn for approach, floating floating,,,slowing down...won't make the field....hmm, little up elevator, floats a bit more....started descending, but slower than idle approach......touch down on edge of field...skating, skating, skating, won't stop.....ran out on ice to stop plane...holy shmoley,,,,fell hard and kept skating...slammed into plane..held on to landing gear until we both came to a stop......woohoooo, two point landing for both of us.... arrrrggghhhh, now feel pain in elbow and back. Man. It was fun though. Did that stop me....nooooooo, fill her up and took off again....had 4 flights with all dead stick landings...won't land with the engine at idle....keeps going on the ice. Won't take her out tomorrow.....too much tension.
Cheers guys (Any suggestions why she won't hover)

Seagu;ll Laser, Checking the engine alignment the engine is off centre by about 1/4 inch also there is no offset for thrust. Will this cause problems when flying, and in some of the pictures of completed aircraft why the large hole aound the cyclinder head?
Thanks Ian

Hi Ian-RCU...welcome to the thread. I don't think our alignment was off...the engine mount was preinstalled...I x-changed mine with my Yak 54. When I flew mine today and on it's maiden, it didn't need any right thrust. Don't worry too much...but you gotta fix that off centre engine or maybe the cowl alignment is off. After I installed my engine...I placed my cowl and centred it with the prop shaft. Masked tape the cowl to the fuse and made my marks for the holes.
The hole for the cylinder head is for cooling. Two strokes run hotter than 4 strokes. I found it helped with an incowl engine on my Cap 232. When the engine gets hot in the cowl it surges and eventually dies. This heat build up wears away the engine faster. What I did was richen up the HS needle 1/4 turn...but I used up too much fuel and the plane wasn't as fast. Then I cut the cowl above the engine head....tuned her for max rpm's minus 300rpm and took off....the plane was faster and didn't overheat. Since then...I cut my cowl's above the engine head.
Hope this helps. Ron, Harc and Bob may have some input also to help.
Cheers.

hey tIANci......long time no hear.. this was not my maiden flight...it was my second time out with it today....thought I would loose it as it was skating all over the ice, it was the only plane I took out , so I had 4 more flights with it...hehe. Going flying again tomorrow with a profile for less stress. Why not maiden yours tomorrow for New Years?
Happy New Year guys.......and if you can, donate for the Tsunami relief.
Cheers.

we went flying today i flew my extreme 330 3D profile

i was hovering and got a little low and the plane torqed out of the hover and SPLAT so i pancaked it off to the side of the run way.........

it only bent the gear flat.. quick field repair then more flying....

if the nose was a few more degrees down the plane would be history.... So i got lucky
But the demise will come soon

J - that is the good thing about foamies, they can take some abuse! My first was home made by a friend, he made the Foamy Factory Bipe, I had two, I flew in parks and ended up in trees many times! Fortunately it was not stuck!!! I really abused them and he calls me his CRASH TEST PILOT!
