Hark, Thank's for all of your valuable input on the Lazer 200.
You stated that you moved the CG back to 2 in. Did you do that out of necessity? Was your test flight done with the recommended 1.5 in.?
Mine is about 80% complete. (on my part). I will have a Saito 150BK spinning a 16x8 APC for power. The Lazer has always been one of my favorites, and at 225.00 for such a complete kit I'm in heaven.
So far everything has been perfect. Well built, well covered, and a beautiful plane...My only complaint is that they could have at least cut the servo holes to fit standard servos... and I wish they would have put all those stars on. It's getting cold and the days are short here in De., but I hope to test fly it in a couple of weeks...Worst case...New Years Day at our annual club Freez Fly. I'll keep you all posted.

Hi Ron - Biggest reason I moved the CG back 2" was that I'm not that good a pilot so prefer my planes a little nose heavy. From what I could gather, CG at 1 1/2" would give you the ability to do some radical aerobatics. I'm an occasional loop, roll, spin and lazy 8 flier. Enjoy poking holes in the sky and trying to get the doggone thing back on the ground in one piece. Getting to be an old fart and don't have the reflexes I used to have.

Like you, I'm pleased with the plane. Did have a few wrinkles to iron out but got that under control. Wasn't smart like Bob Zaar when putting the stars on - I eyeballed mine and I think they crossed on a couple of them.

Still wanting to fly it myself but have snow again. About 4 inches last nite and talking maybe up to 4 more tonite. Also pretty chilly. High today was 30 and about the same tomorrow.

Waiting to see how Bob Zaar does and if and when I get mine off the ground, will post - good - bad - or indifferent.

Just finished mine. I have a siato 150 on it. I am well pleased with the plane. Balanced at 1 3/4. I did change the control hardware. the stuff that came with the plane seemed a bit whimpy. It didn't add that much weight to the plane. The total wieght came in at 11 1/2 lb. Have not got to fly it yet. Was hoping to get it in the air today but cut two fingers pretty bad doing something stupid. Hope to get in the air tomorrow.

Hello Harc & Company...
Finished up the Laser today...but first...Let me play the Devil's advocate...
Hark, I'm not sure I understood. If your plane is supposed to balance at 1 1/2", and you wanted it to be nose heavy (more docile) wouldn't that mean you move the CG forward???
So...with the Saito 150, standard radio equip., and all stock hdw., My baby weighed in at 10 1/2lb. With the Rx & Batt. on the tray, and no additional weight, it balanced right on the 1 1/2 mark...using the finger method...(my only means). You can't beat that. I think I'm going to rely on the manufactures recommendations and keep it there for now. I did a couple of slight modifications...See Pics. I didn't cut much on the cowl, so I put a small slot in the rear underside for air flow. On the wheel pants I installed "bushings" on the outer side to give it some support on the axel. I also screwed the wing tube in place. And be careful you don't hit the decals with a hot iron...
I hope to get the first flight this w/end if the weather is half nice. I'll keep you all informed...

Happy Thanksgiving! ;-)

PS...What's up with all the icons at the top of this form??? What do they do???

Happy Flying Guys!!!

Hello laser people,
Flew the laser today and it was great. Run about 3/4 of a gallon of fuel through it. The thing has unlimited vertical with the siato 150. CG was at 1 3/4 for this flight but will be moving it to 1 1/2. Needs a little more tail weight to do harriers. I haven't had this much fun flying in a long time.

Hey Bigal,
Glad to hear it was a success. My 150 was pulling a GILES 202 with authority and it felt like twice the weight as the Laser...Can't wait now. Thanks for the report and mostly the CG info.

Happy Flying & Smooth Landings!

Bigal...Quick question...What were the control throws for your initial flights? The recommended throws seem minimal at best, so I set mine a tad more. Just curious....THANKS!

Do you think a Thunder Tiger 120 engine do the trick?

Without a doubt...2 or 4 stroke? Either one should be more than enough...unless you want unlimited vertical...
The box says use a .91 - 1.20 2 stroke, or 1.20 - 1.50 4 stroke. As light as the plane feels I'm sure a 1.20 will carry it well. Do you have one? Thinking about one? It's a real good kit and you can't beat the price. I would recommend it to my best of friends..
Happy Thanksgiving & Happy Flying!

PS...Does anyone know if there any rules about flying on Thanksgiving Day???

Yes, I have one.....added up the components to check for weight - came out 89 oz. That means a 10 pound final weight should not be too hard to reach. I have a TT 120 waiting for a home.....but I see where a lot of guys like that Saito 150.....THAT would be a new purchase for me, so I might just have to go with the TT 120 two stroker.
