Ron...thanks for the quick reply. Ok, will leave the rates as is. I do winter flying also, but with a TT FunTiger Profile plane. I made ski's from PVC gutter spouting. Works well.

All control throws were set to factory settings for first flight. The elevater was not near enough on low rates. Dailed in about another 3/16 and flies great. Had a little mishap with a power line and ripped the landing gear off. Not a lot of damage. Just the mount plate and a little ultracoat will fix it.

Do you guys think the landing gear area needs beef'n up?

Jerry

PS The latest Horizon catalog indicates UltraCote for all the Seagull models.

Tailskid, I would so no at this point...although Bigal my have a differant opinion.
After my basketball landings, I was impressed and commented that it did hold up.
The plane is very light, and seems to be pretty strong. I've got a Giles 202 that
seem to lose it's gear quite often, even greasing it in....Go figure.

ManOMan.....cutting out the stars for the wing decals takes forever. I just finished cutting them out after 2hrs. Haven't placed them on the wings as yet though. Tightening up the ultracote with a heat gun first.
Tailskid.....I'd leave the landing gear as is. With those metal bolts...it's better if the LG rips off. It will be a cleaner break than if you beef it up. May do more damage. IMO..as is, the repair if it does happen would be easier. Just my thoughts. Someone else may have a better idea

The weather here in Toronto has taken a turn for the worst....heavy rain this morning and 40 kph winds. Hope next weekend is good. I want to fly this plane so bad now...

Ok...so did anyone route the antenna inside or outside?...if so, pics will help please before I install the receiver and put on finishing touches.
What is the best deflection for low rates for elevator and aileron for those of you who have already maidened your Laser's? Give deflection in fraction of an inch.

Thanks guys for all the help and encouragement.
Cheers.

Kaz, Yeah those stars are a bi__h. And don't go near them with a hot iron...
For the antenna, I drill a hole in the bottom to accept a 1/4" piece of fuel tubing
and CA it in. Keep it flush to the outside of the plane. It makes for a nicely finished
hole. Feed it through the tubing and then use a cut off piece of control horn as shown
to attach to tail wheel with small rubber band. For a strain relief, I run it between the Velcro that holds the batt. or rx.
As for the throws...read my previous letters.
My suggestions are...
Elev. 1/2" low rate...7/8 MAX. high
Ailerons 1/4"-5/16" low...3/8" high
Rudder I always put all I can get, although this may produce some unwanted roll coupling
doing aerobatics....these are good starting points, then adjust to your liking as needed.

Happy Sticking...afterwards...You'll love the way it looks. (I did notice that you saved that for last) The cutting was the worst part, the rest is easy. I laid them all out on the wing by eye (I have a good eye for that sort of thing) then remove & stick one by one....Have fun...gotta go.

Hello Ron - You are correct. Thanks for helping to pull my head out of my hip pocket. Must have been so deep I wasn't getting enough oxygen and the brain went to pot. I did exactly what I said except my "logic, rationale, thinking" was not to good. Thanks for making me rethink this thing. Will stick with the set up until I fly and then decide what to do if there is anything left.

Good luck with yours. Sounds like you are having a ball with it. I'm still biding my time. High today was around 19-20 degrees and snow falling. Lite powdery w/accumualation of about 3-4" so far. Don' have skis to fit it but do have a set I could possibly put on my bipe.

This snow and cold weather should make the Bronco game tonite most interesting.

A belatted Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Harc

Go Broncos!!!

Gee, we even had a 'cold' windy day here in Phoenix also....didn't get much above 60 - but the wind was a solid 20+ all day long - so I didn't go flying.....just worked on the Laser. Putting one of those Du-Bro vibration mounts - maybe that will help quiet it down some.

Well, I finally got it finished except for routing the antenna. Thanks again Ron for the antenna and throw pointers. Will do exactly as you suggest. Well, this was one sweet build. Four days, yep...4 days. Day one...cowl, wheel and pants, fuel proof firewall, put together fuel tank.
Second day.....horiz and vert stab, cut out servo holes, wing tube holes. Waited for awhile, then did tail wheel.
Third day....engine and mount, installed servos and 4-40 wires and clevises. Route wires through fuselage. Redid one elevator servo higher (haven't sealed that hole as yet). Flying wires on tail. Red Sealant on Bisson Muffler.
Fourth day (today)....stars and stickers. Went to see a movie (Alexander)...4 hrs phew.
Well....here's the finished product....ta Dahhhhhhhh (drum roll)

and here's one more........
Well, will have to wait for next weekend now for it's maiden if all's well. I must say that this is one really good and helpful thread. It was encouraging and nice to know that you guys were there for almost instant advise.
The stars and stickers really came out ok. I eyeballed everything. What's the verdict guys?

Now to go start building the GSP Yak 54......hope it builds as easy as the Laser 200
