This is NOT a post about refrigerator compressors, manual pumps, compressed air venturi pumps, or any other backyard vacuum pump arrangement, although some work fine.

I am posing a little marketing test for a quite reasonably priced vacuum pump, ready to use.

Would you buy a vacuum pump that:
1) Cost between $35 - $45.
2) Runs on your 120v outlet.
3) Is almost silent.
4) Is the size of a stapler.
5) Has an outlet hose connector (for whatever).
6) Develops 7-8" Maximum. (Requires no switches, tanks, regulators).
7) Is suited for bagging the occasional kit, not for pro builders doing composite layups requiring high vacuum.

Keep replys short please.
Thank you!

Where can I get one! I get tired of pulling my other one out for simple little things. Show me the way and I will buy one.

Yes--Providing the it lasted more than a day and could pull and hold a vacuum if there was a minor leakage in the bag.

It will be a small CFM pump, but not impotent by any means.
Yes, more dilligence in sealing is required to use a smaller pump, an obvious trade off for cost.

No. Bagging wings takes 15 - 22 hg.

Just in case anybody is tempted to crank up their vacuum system, do not go this high if using white foam. 15-22hg will crush the foam. On a 500 sq" wing the above vacuum will result in total compressive forces on the wing of just under 7,500-11,000 lbs.

Yep, sorry I should have been more specific. Bagging sailplane wings made of Dow Hi-load 60 is best done at high vacuum levels. It will definitely crush white foam, and while this is fun as an experiment it is definitely not something you want to do w/ any investment in CF, Kevlar or even fiberglass.

Hi planesfearme,
Thanks for the Email inquiry.
This thread has been dead for over a month since my last post, so I havent checked it lately. Thanks for getting it going again.

To the rest of you, NO it is not vaporware. You would be quite pleased with the product and the quality for the price.

I have not decided to begin selling anything because I have a full time job, travel out of state, a handicapped spouse, kids, ....you know the drill. This simply may not be worth the effort of sales, collecting payments, shipping, handling warranty claims, parts, returns, customer correspondence, shipping, blah blah blah. Makes my head spin. It requires a large quantity of sales to make it worthwhile. HENCE MY ORIGINAL POST. I need to get a feel for the quantity of interested parties. I never said they were available for sale...yet.

Ive got 500 hits, only 7 positive replies. Part of the problem is diving in with a quatity run without having sales already lined up. If more people were to seriously respond with a simple YES I might have this underway already. I have to think with 500+ hits, there is a need for it.

I might possibly start out with a few pieces to email replys, just to see how it goes, and if word of mouth travels, take it from there. If this thread gets active again, I will give it some more thought and post a reply.
Thanks
