I picked up this airplane at my local hobby shop, after it hung for 4 months. I live near where hurricane Charley went thru, and the hobby shop guy had a sale. This model came with a OS 1.60FX and 18-10 prop. I installed my receiver, tweaked it a little, charged it up, and flew.

The guy who put it together worked at the hobby store, and had EVERYTHING at is fingertips to get all the balances and throws dialed in. I trimmed the surfaces for neutral, and throttled up. The Plane flew off with a light touch of elevator, and was almost perfect in trim.

After the flight, I had to re-tune the low-end a little, and RE-COVER THE ENTIRE MODEL! The factory covering is CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP. And while re-covering the model, I found 4 (FOUR) MAJOR STRUCTURAL WEAKNESSES OF THE AIR ASSIST ELEVATOR.

The elevator needs to be IMMEDIATELY INSPECTED FOR CRACKS at the outermost hinge point after EVERY flight, or just reinforce the area around the hinge. I may delete the air assist wedge and make it a full span elevator.

Overall, this is a reasonably priced entry level, large scale 3D aerobat. I will post pictures of what the crack looks like on the plane after flight, and what I found inside the covering when I repaired it on this page at Balsa Busters

Sorry about your Katana. Was just ready to order when I read your comments. Do you think they have corrected the problems? Have you heard about the giantscaleplanes Extra 300 72"? If those problems you experienced are common with this Mfg. do you think it is common with all models. Norm Lippucci Estero, Fl.

I would not call this a 3D airplane. It will do some 3D manuvers, although it won't do them very well. I hated flying my Katana, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Far too heavy for the wing area, and very poorly designed. No more CMP / Giant Scale Planes aircraft for me, regardless of the price.

I waw persuaded into buying a Katana because some people posted messages about how good they were for 3D. I later found out that the posters were novice 3D flyers.
