Status: offline 		The "LST" is a nice choice -- Lynn was partial to the high wing Simple Series -- I think he would like it. He flew the 1/2A SST, so why not the 1/2A LST.

RCU resized the plan when I uploaded it, but you can get a high res version from the "1/2A all the way!" group under "Documents" > "Plans".

If you have Tile Print, you can use it to print the GIF, otherwise you can use the PDF version.

Status: offline 		What type of wood do you use for the sides of the fuse.? Theres some Balsa 1/8" sheet, and theres 'Lite ply' 1/8" plywood. The plywood sure is expensive though. 12 bucks(Canadian) for a 12"x 48" piece. maybe I'll stick with balsa if theres no strenght issues with using it.

Oh...and what type of glue do you use(havent built a plane before)? I have some medium CA glue. do I need any epoxy or will it hold with just the CA?

Status: offline 		The plans show 3/32" balsa. Only use plywood for the firewall and balsa everywhere else. Also add a couple of pieces of tri-stock behid th firewall Only use CA, you shouldn't need any epoxy for this plane except maybe the firewall. If you build it with ailerons, put .75" dihedral on each wing tip. If you build it without ailerons, use 1.75" diheadral on each tip.

Status: offline 		Hi Bipe, I've never scratch built anything or from plans only. You make me want to try it. I'm not too computer savvy and don't know what programs or other stuff I need to get plans from sites. I love Kadets, learned to fly on a Kadet Jr. in the 70's. I had a tough time learning on 3 channels though but did'nt know better until I flew an aileron equipped Ace alpha 15. Now that was fun! I've saved rudder only skills for gliders. Anyway, I want to scratch build something 1/2 A for a Norvel .061 that I'm going to have to buy myself since santa screwed me over and brought me a Zenoah instead.

If it turns out good, maybe I'll learn to scale it up so I can use the zenoah if not , I'll turn it into an edger or mount it on a bicycle. Please point me to the website that explains cad. I miss LS too.

Status: offline 		I think that it would be best with 4 channels and a Norvel .074. DuBro makes a steerable nosewheel that should work nicely.

You don't need a CAD program to print it. It is already tiled in the PDF file or, if you prefer, I have a program that can resize it.

If you want a good CAD program that is easy to learn, try Turbocad. They used to have a free version at http://www.turbocad.com , but I can't find it there anymore. The free version I have is 5.1 from 1998, but you can get version 8 for around $10 on eBay.

Status: offline 		Hey Bipe, what about a mod page with a conventional gear? I've always prefferred conventional as I feel it's tougher in a hard landing and sure doesn't transfer the shock to the rudder servo like a nose gear does in a tough one. Some of the folks looking to build may prefer that option.

It's nice to see that extra size and wing area to help slow it down too. And finally a suggestion that folks start with a 7x3 to further help slow the model down as well.

Status: offline 		IMO, the only thing that a trike has over a taildragger is that it is easier to learn takeoffs with. To make it a taildragger, just move the mounting blocks for the mains up to the second former.


With an .074, a 7X3 is definitely the right choice.
