For those that are waiting, for the maiden flight of the LST........SO ,,AM ,I,..!!.We`ve had Rain, here ,and after a day of that.ULTRA fluffy SNOW Pretty much a daily thing 6 ",at least ,of this CRUD in the last week. The amount ,and type of snow, that this is ,I doubt skis will even work on my yard. It`s almost like GOOSE DOWN (feathers).I think, if I was to set the plane down, on this stuff,It would sink, right to the wing. .It`s still Snowing now.At the moment ,all I can do is throw another log ,on the fire ,and ,,,,,,, Wait..Oh well,, I`ll just wipe my finger, and nose prints, off the window ,and, close the blinds. That way ,I`m not just sittng here ,looking out the window.Sigh....This weather ,is becoming, a real,,,, Bummer.

so far the T.T. 07 worked well....the conventional glow plug they use allows one to keep a fresher glow plug which = more reliable runs and starts. You could even go hog wild and spend the big bucks on the OS plug, but Im using the K&B brand, lots less cash along with easy to get 10%nitro.
Another tip for you 1/2a guys is I use a power panel, monitor the glow plug's current draw. When the plug gets a little worn, you can step up the current a little and get a good pop for starting. The variable current option of the panel, coupled with having a meter to read the output of the panel to the plug, will let you know the condition of the glow plug. This has worked well with cox .049's too. I made a clip from a plastic clothes peg that keeps the driver clip on the head and all went well from there. Quick easy starts even when you over prime the .049's.Just add a little moe current and they'll fire up.
Now ,I think after reading through these miles of posts here, I'll have to build one of these LSR's,add a few of my own building touches and join you guys .Your having too much fun.And yes,We just got finished one ice storm and here comes more snow and sleet today.Skis on >049..gotta try it!

Hello D Bronk
I see your online about the same time I am..lol. Still snowing here too. I dug my TT .07 from the box,set it on the bench and started cutting wing ribs for the LST.I think this will be a great little project, and I'll build floats too. Will cheat a little here as I have 2 sets of GWS floats that should work quite nicely for 1/2 a size planes. They weren't expensive when I bought them either.
This will be a tail dragger though as I've already been through the headace and frustration with hooking up 1/2a sized steerable nose gear by dubro on the Kadetio I previously built.I'll give it micro servo's and reciever ,1/2 hardware, anything to cut weight but not strenght. There are a few things from that past project I would do better so I will include my percieved improvements on the LST.The pull-pull will be my choice for rudder(Have a little tip for you guys on how to do this from the indoor electric guys you might Like) I'll post picks if anyone wants as I proceed, but I'm a flier not a photographer...and I'm sure there are way better builders than me

I`ll be watching, and looking, for your pics too. You`ll be finished, and flying ,before me ,by the looks of things.I`m just going to put the LST to the side,,, for now ..I suppose the time to maiden, will come ,,,,whenever. I want to give this, flying off snow a shot ,but I won`t do it, while it`s Snowing

just got back from town, went into the shop and laid out some balsa to carve and some wire to bend and solder.( light landing gear with .037 music wire).serves as push rod/servo wire too if you buy too much.Think I'll double duty and build another model while the other dries.this should keep me in the shop for a minute or two...
I'll try to remember and stop for photo's.

ok gang, here we go,I chose what I thought was some of the best features of the kadet senior and the LST and some of my own, then got started.Engine choice will be the Thunder tiger .07(personal favourite and I just happened to have a spare on my shelf)),using it's radial mounting feature of it's rear/backplate casing, eliminating the need for a nylon mount although it has both features cast in the casing. Also I chose to make this a tail dragger, eliminating front steering hardware and a wheel.(My fingers are large and things get tight trying to fiddle in these area's with 1/2a size gear).Less parts=less weight too.I made the landing gear with .037 music wire, bending around 1/8 ply tabs and eypoxying the tab onto the wire, then soldering the gear together were it meets the axle.I used 1 3/4in foam wheels to make take offs from grass at my field easier. The tab feature of the landing gear will slide into slots into the underside of the fuselage.these slots go into strips of 1/16 ply I added to the bottom of the fuselage before sheeting the bottom. This should keep things strong and light and make it easier to remove the gear later or swap to floats.(GWS floats and foam planes use this type of system in their electric stuff).
My designs here are not my own but personal pieces of other designs I believe to be good and usefull through personal experience. Some good and maybe some not so good.that's what building your own is all about and I will never stop learning in this hobby until the grass is growing over my head. It's one of the things I love about it.
The fuse is built up 1/8 balsa stick, stripped from balsa (med/hard).This should add strenght for the longeron stringers .I sheeted the fuse with 1/16 soft balsa and sheeted the bottom with 1/16 balsa. The 2 main formers and firewall are made from 1/8 aircraft ply,a 3/4in spacer of soft balsa block was used( hollowed out for fuel lines) as a spacer to move the engine forward to help clear the nose/cowl area in the front and keep weight forward avoiding added balancing weight in the nose later.(I consider this type of weight non value added and only adds to wing loading of the finished design later. This is a 1/2 powered plane where weight is a factor.
I added some 1/4 x 1/4 soft balsa in the cheeks and nose area, used my dremel for quick shaping and carving to produce a Kadet style nose. Very similar to the way the senior is constructed. This probably could have been skipped but I thought I'd give the plane a little finished class. Also i used some micro ballons and balsa filling paste in those larger gap area's trying to get a smoother finish for covering later.Razor saw and exacto knife cutting is still better left to the wood carvers, but I get by.The filler hides my inabilities as a cabinet maker.LOL...
I've also decided to build up the tail and stabalizer from 1/8 stick, cutting tail weight of the plane. My end goal weight should end around 16/18 oz i'm hoping..we'll see.I have HiTec's HS55 servo's and micro reciever and lipo battery for the electric hardware side.(Stole this from my indoor foam flying stock)I also want to add a pull-pull rudder to this plane, again something I've used in my indoor designs.1/2a alows us to use other materials instead of wire in the pull system like tent canvas thread/heat shrink and CA for cables. You can sub the canvass thread for some of your 2lb"Spider wire" fishing line if you like as I've used this too. This type of fishing line has very little stretch and is very hard to break, resists UV rays too.Monofilm can work but has some down sides like loosing it's strenght through time & UV penetration and does stretch some too.I'll explain this more with a pic or two when I get to that part in my build.
Enough for now ,glues dried enough to proceed...accelertor & CA are a builders Dream..he haw...
M.A.W.= McCrum Air Works ...hehe..might have to copy right that...Lol

got some more finished here, and tried a few more photo's . @ servo's are mounted and the pull-pull is centered in place, but not hard mounted. The elevator and throttle servo are taped, blue folding foam backed, then C.A'd in place. I put the pull-pull rudder servo on rails in the center of the fuse for easier access and intial set up of the fishingline(Spiderwire).I've done this at this stage of build so it's easier to access now then later once covered and tail and stab attached. Those are drying as I'm typing and should be ready for the next post.Servo's are GWS naro size and 2 naro "E Sky's.The elevator and throttle will be wire and nyrod tube with z bends and dubro 1/2a easy connectors.I get more shots of these before covering and post later if need be.
Any questions, just ask.Hope the info is a help to somebody.
