I hope it is just his PC, and maybe he got a chance to try out before the snow melted If he can make it to a library he can post from there assuming libraries in Canada offer free PC access like here in the USA

I created a DXF file for laser cutting all the LST parts. It is on 1/2A all the way, under the plans section. http://groups.msn.com/12Aalltheway/documents.msnw?fc_a=0&fc_p=%2FPlans

I didn't put the cut tabs in the DXF, so whoever cuts it will need to do that. I am providing this file for personal use. If someone wants to start cutting and selling the parts for profit, talk to me first.

Do some of yall actually own laser cutters? or just have access to them. if you own them, did you make them or buy them?

I made the DXF because I got a request from someone for a CAD file that he could take to a laser cutter. I know some people, like Dickeybird, have home made CNC routers. I have a CNC foam cutter. I know a few people who have laser cutters, but they use them for business. A person could make their own laser cutter, but the laser itself is the expensive part. It would be interesting to know if people do have them at home though.

I for one prefer to get as much as possible cut. Keeps me out of trouble with the Mrs. and the dust alergics. Besides I live in a condo and space is limited. I use www.redstarrc.com to cut my stuff when at all possible, good honest guys, reasonable prices and your plans are kept private

I remember someone posted that they made their own cnc foam cutter. what that you? if so, would you share how you made it? and those routers, has anyone given up details on how they did one of those?

It was probably my CNC foam cutter you read about. I built mine with information from http://www.8linx.com/cnc/cnc.htm . Construction is just regular hardware like ball bearing drawer slides and aluminum railing posts. You can get driver boards and stepper motors from http://www.hobbycnc.com . You can also find surplus stepper motors at http://www.allelectronics.com . The software I use is from http://gm.cnc.free.fr/en/index.html . There is info on some of those sites for CNC routers too, and there is an excellent article in the Aug. 2005 Flying Models, written by Dickeybird.

Here are a couple pics of my machine.

I apologize if this has been discussed before, but I'm thinking about building an electric version of the LST and wondered if I could get some hints as to the necessary power requirements. I'm fairly new to electric flight and brand new to 1/2A planes, so I'm having a bit of difficulty figuring out the conversion. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

BTW: I have an Ultrafly Extra with the standard (brushed) power system that I'm figuring I'll steal parts from since it made an unscheduled landing a while back. It would be great if this would transfer over without too many issues.

Thanks in advance.

(woohoo, I just noticed that Bipeflyer posted the parts DXF. Glad I could prompt him to put them up there. )

The Ultrafly Extra power system is a Speed 400 on a 3:1 gearbox, so it should work fine. A Mega Motor 16/15/5 would be ideal for a brushless.

When you get the parts cut, it would be great if you did a build thread so we can all see how things look and fit together.

I started this build, got busy and discovered the Sig Kadet EP-42. I purchased it, tossed the electric setup and mounted an Enya .09, HS-55s in the wing and 3x hs 81s in the fuse, a 250 mah battery pack and have had many great flights. I ordered wheel pants as parts for the Eflight mini edge and installed them on my Kadet, a 1.5 inch tru turn spinner really set it off. It's a great plane for anyone who likes this idea, but doesn't have the time to build it...

An ARF? Why let someone else have all the fun of building? Building and flying is like having your cake and eating it too.
