Andrew -

You might add the plans link to the first post in this thread. One of the things I like about the scratchbuilt foamys forum in RCG is that links to plans and mods are added to the top, especially for long threads, so that they can be easily found in one location.

Good idea, but I can't edit that post anymore -maybe Bruce can add it.

Anybody have pictures showing the bottom center of the wing. Do I angle R1 to match the dihedral?

Please post un-tiled version. Or tiled to A3 and A4.
Thanks

I moved my website to a different ISP and the links to the LST files weren't working - they're fixed now.

Hey Bipe, that GIF file that's got the whole plan on it.... can I take that to Kinko's or somewhere and get them to print it full size?  Or is it best to just tape the tiled pages together and cut the parts out like that?  That's how I do my foamies, but I've never built a balsa plane from scratch like this though.  Thanks for a great plane!

Pat

Personally, I just print out and tape together the sections I'm working on at the time, rather than tape the entire thing together as one big plan. If you prefer to have the whole thing printed at Kinkos, make a couple of copies. One for cutting up and the other for building on.

Yeah, that was what I was thinking, why would I get an entire plan printed if I was going to cut it out to trace the parts.    I'll just go with the tile print like usual.  Thanks.

well guys, if you look back through the post you will see i was building this about 4/5 years ago at the same time as D Bronk well im back home after spending 3 years at uni and mum had left it sitting on top of my cupboard ... while at uni i had slammed my rivets head long into the ground from about 30 feet strait up when the vert stab cracked (T tail for those that dont know the rivets) so i pulled my electrics out of that and put them in the LST and finally maiden-ed it today 4 and a half years after first balsa was cut (probably one of the last fine days before winter and i have to go work at the ski fields here in OZ) and i must say...... HAPPY DAYS WILL BE HAD, flys awesome, im running esc, ailerons and elevator so its extremely light (the body is amazingly empty for 1/2a size) handles fine, even a bit twitchy rolling when on low rates (70%) so will pull that back abit and move the CoG back abit to calm the pitch. BUT all things considered, it was perfect

soooo thanks to all those involved in the initial project, i think im going to try and teach my dad with this after winter when i get a buddy sytem

Damien

Looks like she flies like a dream I also like the red on the bottom for visibility. I'm going to attempt building this "one of these days".

u definitely should i built 90% of it in a couple of hours, it just took 4 years to get round to finishing it, extremely easy to build with slab fuselage and flat bottom wing

well i took her out for another test flight today when it wasnt as windy

Must say that i am even more impressed, just an absolute joy to fly; incredibly stable, could cut lazy circuits on trim . She can scoot along if u give it some throttle but 1/4 is all that was needed for straight and level flying at most. would loop fine and barrel roll if you managed the throttle/attitude properly. i couldnt get a aileron roll out of her for the life of me though, probably because of the large dihedral and large wing area for such a light model.... BUT, that is what she was designed as, a 1/2A trainer and boy does it do it well, like i said, incredibly stable, would take effort to turn into a lawn dart.

i have only one problem though, landing in a wet cow $h!^ sucks , makes my lovely plane smelly haha.

whats next for the LST,maybe some powerful LED's and some dusk/night flying.... should be interesting

Damien

I noticed that this thread has been producing a long and strong history.

For those that don't know the LST is an anacronym for Lynn Sipes Trainer. Lynn was a long time fan of the small side of glow modeling and Bipe Flyer named the trainer in his honor. Sadly Lynn went to the great flying field in the sky some years back. But I'm sure he would be happy to know that he's remembered here at RCU and that his love of small glow engines has been remembered by naming this design in honor of his memory.

It's great to see another LST built. I do remember you starting it a few years ago and I'm glad that you have an nice plane to enjoy. You've done a very nice job of it.

Bipe Flyer has had ISP problems over the years and his site server is occasionally unstable. Here are pdf's of the plans.

Andrew, if you had rather serve the plans, I can remove the attachments if you wish.

The links in the first post are working. Some on some of the other pages might have changed though. I switched to a new ISP a couple of months ago, so there shouldn't be any problems now.

Andrew, I have no problem with you posting the plans. I probably should have done them as attachments, but they were being revised for a while, so I was just updating the files on my site with a link to them.

Highfly3D, let me know if you have any questions.

PS, I'll take an Ultimate 10-300 over a Yak 54.

haha thanks the first link worked fine... earlier it did not work. But the plan is in tiled version, i have a big dot matrix printer & can print plans in one piece. If you have a one piece plan for this please let me know.

Thanks,
High

Alright, I'll bite.

This looks like a fun build. After reading the whole shlimeal why not I say? Need to print out Bipe's plans, oh. I hope I have enough ink...note to self, buy ink then balsa. In that order. I would really enjoy seeing how this plane flies. Can anyone post a video? It will be electric (please no beatings). I paid the price by halting a Cox .049 with my finger once. While reaching for the needle through the full speeding prop. Luckily very close to the shaft. No damage except I remember my ears were ringing and I had a sore finger. I use a 2808/something brushless motor maybe. Looking forward to having fun with this, more soon.

Best, Doug

Hi Bipe

I’ve just been looking through this listing - in particular D Bronk’s build. Your design looks like a fabulous aircraft.

I’m relatively new to R/C modelling but keen to start – in particular with a 1/2A plane. Based on my lack of experience I’m not sure whether I should buy a kit or build the LST from the plans that I have downloaded. I feel that building the LST from plans will be a steep learning curve but far more beneficial. To help me make a decision I’d be grateful for a bit of advice.

The Jr Falcon (http://www.earlyrcmodels.com/id15.html) looks like a great kit. But do you reckon this plane (assuming one added ailerons etc) is as good as the LST? And would it be easy to add ailerons?

You recommend a .074 engine for the LST – is the plan/design scalable as I would like to use my existing Cox .049 (with an R/C throttle)?

I look forward to hearing your comments.
All the best
Simon (York, UK)
