Hi Guys,
I finally flew my Eurosport today . It has taken me 5 months for varoius reasons, but it was worth it. She is an absolute **** cat but is also as astoundingly manaouverable as everyone knows. I can't stop grinning.
The only trouble is that I nearly did not get to fly today due to the brakes constantly locking up. Last time out this same problem is what prevented me flying her. One or other of the brakes would jam on so hard that even at low speed it has ruined the tyres. It is just as well I was cautious since if I had just gunned her and a brake had jammed she would have rolled up in a ball.
Now maybe it's me but I cannot see these brakes ever working as they are, aliminium to aliminium. Any engineer will tell you that this arrangement will pick up and that is just what is happening.
Has any one any experience good or bad with these brakes? Any tips or ideas on how to make them work. Or should I cut my losses and sling them?
All ideas are welcome.
Thanks,

John.

I had a similar problem with the Euro brakes. I solved the problem by backing the brake hub out of the wheel slightly and giving the O ring space to work. Its a bit fiddly to get working but well worth the effort. Mine are now working fine.

Hi,
Good way to improve them is face them with discs of 0.5mm
ply, lightly sand the ply before cutting them out on a cutting mat
with a brand new blade. size to give about 1mm in from the outside
and inside edges, slightly rough the alloy and wipe with alcohol
to degrease, glue immediately with thin cyano.
If you have access to a lathe then place in the chuck and
clamp a small sanding block in the tool post then run very lightly
across the disc to level up, failing a lathe then lightly rub on
fine grit tape onto surface plate/sheet of glass or whatever
you have thats dead flat.
Suggest you taxi a few times with the brakes slightly on to
help bed them in, this does make them far less grabby and
its easy to renew. Mike

Hi Mike,
I must admit that facing the inside of the wheels appeals to me but I hda not thought of thin ply. However, it should work fine, but how thin is thin? Personally I think that the holes that are drilled in the face of the wheels are a part of the problem and are picking up any bit of grit or dirt around.
I don't have a lathe but I will give your suggestion a try.
Regards,

John.

Hi Thommo,
I am not sure that I understand you. Are you refering to the type of brakes that blow an O ring out of a slot? Mine are the type that have a piston made of ali that bears on the inside face of the wheel, which is also of ali.
Regards,

John.

The brakes that came with my Euro are the type that blow an O ring out of a slot. Yours are obviously a different kind.

i have [euro kit] brakes and gear.... the brakes are an aluminum puck that the air pushs out to the inner wheel face,, [aluminum to aluminum ].... there are holes in the inner wheel which i chamfered the edges of with a larger drill bit... then filled the holes full of grease.. .. also using a up6 valve... brakes work good now...

Yep those are the same kind as I have. I chamfered the holes and they needed it. I have just a smear of grease in then now but I will try packing the holes with grease.
Thanks for the input Daytona.
Regards,

John.
