What we have here ... is a failure to communicate !!!

There's no such thing as a nimah battery.

Do you have 2000 mah Nicd battery? Fast charge it at up to 4 amps.

Do you have a 2000 mah Nimh battery? Fast charge it at up to 2 amps.

Both of the above assume you have a peak detecting charger for nicd or nimh batteries.

Howzat,
Joel

Thanks for using your intelligence to understand me, I meant NiMh. Thanks for the answer.

As I understand, you should charge NiCads at 3C max and NiMH at 2C max

You can charge Nicads at higher charge rates as long as you combine voltage drop detection withpack temperature monitoring. Without temperature monitoring I would NOT go above 2C.

Also for clarification a peak detection charger does not detect the Peak, or maximum voltage. It detects a voltage drop. As a cell charges it will rise in voltage, when it can not take any more charge the voltage will dip a little, say around 10-20mv per cell. A quality charger should use this method to determin full charge, not just the max voltage.

I do wish people wouldn't talk as though all NiCds or all NiMH behave exactly the same. There are many different individual cells manufactured in each type and they can behave very differently.

You can charge SOME NiCds at up to 4C without any trouble at all using a delta peak charger without temperature sensing, but only the better fast charge cells e.g. the old 500ARs or 1900SCRs. Some NiCds will fail rapidly if you go over about 1.5C.

Same with NiMH except the numbers are lower, some are good for 2C or even 3C, some don't like to go over 1C.

So what type of cells are these 2000mAh NiMH batteries ? If you don't know the best advice is not to push them past 1C (2A).

Here is a dumb but related question. When I charge my rx batteries out of the plane can I charge two at once via a Y cable?
I am talking about using the stock wall charger that comes with the radio.

Not really a good idea to charge 2 in parallel. They'll split the available current between them so take twice as long to charge. Worse, you can't be sure that the current is splitting equally so one battery may be overcharged while the other has only managed a partial charge.

I wouldn't do it.
