I'll be using the stock mount initially, as the ST2300 is pretty low on vibration to begin with. Have to widen the space between the hardwood bearers, but not very much. I'll also do pics and mod info on my website. The KS Canister muffler I have will mount on the wing, but probably stay attached to the coupler (mine are pretty flexible silicone, and I think they'll hold up).

Also installing taller landing gear, as the stock gear will not permit a 17" prop to turn....or....I may do a 15.5" three blader.... I've come to like them a lot for the dynamic braking, and reduced rudder corrections needed.

It's all an experiment, and doing my "McGyver" thing....

I'm finally going to try a 4-blade prop on mine. APC makes a 13.8x10 four blade
which might work out just right on the YS 1.10 . We'll see.
I couldn't locate a 3-blade that I really liked . Probably need to do some repitching.

    Tommy,

Could you advise whether the nose ring is needed on your setup? I am interested in the same combo, but not sure if I should consider to add in the nose ring or not.

    Thank you,

    Kevin

    Kevin,
The Hyde type A mount does not require a nose ring but I don't see why you
couldn't use one if you want to. My concern with this setup in the Excelleron is
the removal of so much of the engine rails to make the Hyde mount fit. Some
bracing and fiberglass would definitely have to be added along with a new firewall
and I'm a little concerned about the extra weight that would be added. There are
a lot of good pictures of this same modifications on an Icepoint in the Icepoint
    buildup forum.
I do not have a nose ring in my Excelleron now with the Dave Brown mount
although I've thought about adding one. There is plenty of room for one.

I'm not sure if the 13.8X10 4bl will be enough prop, be interesting to see.
I have a 14.5X11 4bl that was cut down to just under 14X11. I tried it on the 91 & it was too much prop. Have intended to try it on the 110 just haven't gotten to it yet.
Let me know how it runs and I'll try mine again, hopefully on Friday.

    Hey Eddie,
Yeah , you might be right about the 4-blade. I'll try it this weekend if the wind around
here ever drops under hurricane force !
I read in another discussion someone was using this prop on a 90 size Viper with a piped
OS .91 with good results but it might be a little light for the YS 1.10 .
APC has a 3-blade 13.8x13.5 they recommend for our engines but Dave Shadel doesn't
think the 1.10 will pull it. He should know I guess. I'll try them both next time out and let
    you know.
Master Airscrew makes some 3-blades in the sizes that should be perfect but don't waste
your money. The center hub is so thick you can't install the double locking nuts , Ive tried.

Ok., newbie here. Been flying for 2 years but never flew pattern. I do all types of flying, but for some reason I keep coming back to pattern forum. Is this how it starts???

Been watching this thread from the start....now I got one coming, it was too hard to pass up paying $200 for this ship. I plan to power it with a ys110 (got this engine to use in something else just in case).

    Questions:
Where did you guys get cf wheel pants and gear from??? I would like to investigate further.

Just how strong is the ys110 in this bird??

    Thanks

The YS 1.10 is about the perfect engine for the Excelleron. I don't know that I've ever
climbed straight up for 500 ft. but a normal vertical pull for a large pattern maneuver
is probably at least 300 ft. and it makes this with ease. I broke mine in with an APC 15x8
pattern prop and Powermaster YS 20x20 fuel and now use an APC 15x10 pattern prop and
Powermaster 30% heli fuel. Still run it slightly rich and has more than enough power.

Carbon fiber gear and wheel pants are Bolly , (f3A Std.) , purchased from Precision Aero Composites.
You'll need to move the gear about 3/4 in forward because they slant backward slightly.

1st you don't "need" to replace the landing gear. If you just "want" the bolly carbon gear they're available from http://www.precisionaerocomposite.com/products/bollylanding.htm

2nd The power of the Ys110- is most definetly enough. I would say you'll have unlimited vertical. Plenty of power to do the 1/2 square with a half-roll on the vertical or any other vertical manuver you choose.

    you'll like it.

I have a Excelleron 90 on the way now I just have to find a YS 1.10 everyone seems to be out of stock.
I think I will try to fly some pattern contest next year.
Thanks everyone for sharing the building tips.

Try Russ Honea at Pattern Proz for the 1.10 . He's the last one that I heard
that might still have some. There's a few nice looking YS 1.20s in the Marketplace
that should work out real nice also.

Well I just could not resist the sale price either. Seems like an awesome buy at $199. I can't find a YS 110 either. Might wait to see Bob's pics of the SuperTigre 2300. Also found a Tiger Shark 120 on sale for $139.00 at atsrcplanes.com. Does anyone have any experience with these?

    Thanks tommy s and swlarcham.

fyi, Russ had 6 left (that was at 3:00 p.m. central time). I got mine today. Better get one, they are going fast...you can reach him at:

GREGD - You will be absolutely amazed at how nice this plane is. I was, and I've seen a few. My only reason for the ST 2300 is the anti-conformist-non-YS-user-Recovering 4 Stroke victim....and it's DIRT cheap. Muffled it will provide unimaginable authority on this airframe. And I can always pull back.

MANY users of the YS 110's report those are just terrific motors, lots of power, and very reliable. I know and believe these reports.

I'm just one of those guys with a "black thumb" when it comes to growing YS motors.....
