Status: offline 		Well here is my very first float plane, it's Unionville Hobbies DHC-3 "Otter" kit built with 6 foot wingspan.

It came with Supertiger G61 in the cowl and set of floats. I added digital servos as test bed in it so let see how they will perform. Hoping to get someone's attention who could guide me correct position/location to mount rear float struts so i can go fly this baby soon. It has flown many times before but not by me, so it will be maiden flight for me on it.

Hope you guys like it, it's nice solid model and looks very aggressive and mean on the floats, i think Otters look great on floats in real then on landing gears!...

Is the trim black or dark blue?

Did you mount the floats or were they attached already?

Have you had the model sitting in water?

Hey Charles,

Thanks for the kind words for my model.

Trims are dark blue and light blue on this model.

Model came with floats seprately made for it, i mounted/attached them on the model.

I am also planning to use aluminum duct tape to metalize the floats, add ladders to them in near future!.

No i haven't set model on the water as yet, i am planning to do so later today though!.

We'll post pictures of it on the water for all to see.

Status: offline 		Here's my latest folly. Seagull models .40 size Spacewalker II. Great planes floats. O.S. .61 for power. Converts from wheels to floats in about 5 minutes. Maiden flight today. Great flying plane!

Engine: OS 1.60FX.

Floats: Sig quarter scale painted gloss white.

Radio: Futaba 10-channel with Corona 2.4 receiver & module.

Thanks for the good coments on my Rascal. The floats are the Hangar 9 1/4 Cub ARF floats. They worked out very nice.

Status: offline 		I am not sure who the kit manufacturer was but the aircraft modeled was a Gloster 4b. It was the last British aircraft built as a bi-plane. If you notice the bottom wing is an inverted gull and the top is a regular gull. I like your mounting hardware. Do you make it yourself or buy it somewhere. Never seen any around for sale that is nice and tidy like that. However, Hangar 9 sells their water rudders and mounting hardware seperately. I like their water rudders. They come in pairs for one money.

Status: offline 		Yes they do; do a picture search, most hellis need floats unless they are built to be Amphibious like the Sea-king or Merlin and built with watertight hulls and outriggers.

lol... That's a great analogy and I know what you mean, my 18 month old son does that all the time and it never gets old. I searched and searched for float alternatives for a 400/450 size heli and there really was nothing out there that seemed suitable. My only alternatives were to make them out of pool noodles (I've seen several failed attempts on youtube that ended with the heli underwater), make them out of foam, use the GWS airplane floats that my friend uses on his Blade 400, or use the inflatables. I really liked the idea of inflatable floats even though they look huge on the bird. It really doesn't have a problem handling the size and the weight as you can see in the video. I recently spoke with someone on another forum who is designing inflatable floats that are a little more scale for the 400's and he's promised to contact me as soon as he gets them into the production phase. For now, I guess I'll keep flying around with my giant shoes. lol...
