BAP 62 -> XTM 1/7 XLB (11/17/2004 5:46:34 AM)

The XTM 1/7 XLB Buggy is out. Does anyone have one? How is it?

fz1black -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (11/17/2004 9:25:23 PM)

Looks like you and I are the only ones interested. Found a little info at globalhobby.com in their general qustion forum. I may have to go ahead and take the plunge.

bajan_dread -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (11/18/2004 12:44:10 AM)

Yea this bad boy doesnt sound like a joke with that .28 in it just think of the torque she delivers, i havent found a full review and $499. is one the tilting side of the scale when its holiday time! I wish it came with a fm reciever and maybe I wouldnt complain bout the cost. Gonna have to save all my pennies this month for this one!

BAP 62 -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (11/19/2004 2:31:46 AM)

I figured there would be very few replies as most folks on here look down on XTM. We have 2 and they work great, no problems.

jefx -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (11/19/2004 3:31:49 AM)

I don't have a buggy. I have an LST and a Tmaxx, but this XLB looks really tempting.

I came here looking for some more info about it, but it appears as if there isn't much.

For a buggy, this thing looks right up my alley. I question the diffs though. Doesn't the Mammoth have a lot of diff problems? The XLB is pretty much based off the Mammoth, isn't it?

ThunderbirdJunkie -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (11/19/2004 3:44:26 AM)

I honestly just don't "get" the XLB. I'd rather just bolt the .28 into my X-T than drop all that coin on the XLB

jefx -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (11/19/2004 4:22:44 AM)

It's the size of the XLB that intrigues me. I don't have a track nearby, so I'm just a basher. I've always thought that buggies were cool, and always held a little interest in them. But I don't have any real place to run a buggy, so I've stuck with MT's. The XLB is big enough with enough ground clearance that I could run it at most of the same places that I run my trucks.

fz1black -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (11/19/2004 3:17:58 PM)

The Jan. 2005 RC Car Action is out. Got it last night. They did a first drive with the XLB. They seem to like it plus it did 46 mph if I remember correctly. Want to see a full blown test. (if I can wait that long) Power is not a problem!!! I don't want to race it either, it's just the size that gets me! Got some cats to chase around the yard. Plus that speed!!!

What worries me is if you look at the chassis it looks extended or narrow at the rear(where the rear end attaches to the main body portion). Like that could be a weak stress point and break on a hard landing or crash.

jefx -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (11/19/2004 5:32:53 PM)

Ya, I noticed that too. They just streched the chassis out to make it longer. There is a lot of open space on there just with the intention of making it big.

However, the chassis is still braced. It may be a tad weaker than a smaller (shorter) buggy, but unless you're jumping houses, it'd probably hold up fine.

To make it a 1/7 scale, all they did was make a longer chassis and wider a-arms, so it shouldn't be all that much heavier than an 1/8 scale. The .28 and 2 speed tranny are options that could already be done to many other buggies.

akshay_400@hotmail.com -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (11/19/2004 7:36:28 PM)

i've got this engine in my savage and it has 3.7hp so it should fly with this buggy!!!

brokenrc10gt -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (11/20/2004 6:34:52 AM)

hey guys i was at hobbypeople today pickin up some parts and they had just gottin it in! i took a look at it, It a monster! 2speed tranny, 4wheel drive, 270cc fuel tank. they were "test driving" it out side and it ate my rc10gt lol. well anyway i think thats the next rc i want! THAT THING FLYS!

ThunderbirdJunkie -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (11/20/2004 6:43:40 AM)

again, I'll stick with my X-T. I'm not a racer either, cause I'm a hack driver, and i dig the SH engines XTM sells, but I still don't really see the point of the XLB.
I'd get a Mammoth or another truggy, or I'd get a 1/8 scale buggy...maybe I'm just getting old:P

salsa086 -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (11/22/2004 3:53:35 AM)

RC Car action reported that the Mammoth turned in some of the fastest acceleration times for a monster truck... the XLB has a lighter chassis and a larger engine...

how does it's acceleration compare to the mammoths?
How does the XLB's acceleration compare to the XTM XTerminator?

Kmot -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (11/22/2004 4:29:22 AM)

Like all XTM vehicles, this XLB is made by Great Vigor Models, Inc. They called it the "1/6 Rambo Buggy" and it is based heavily on the Mammoth type platform. They also make a street version. Since XTM just released their version of the Smartech gas buggy and called it 1/6 they ended up calling the XLB a 1/7 scale. In other parts of the world it is referred to as the Rambo and it also comes with a .46 engine!

salsa086 -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (11/22/2004 10:40:24 PM)

Does anyone have any more info on this buggy? What do you guys think? Should I expect that this thing would out accelerate the X-Terminator with a 24-7?

ThunderbirdJunkie -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (11/23/2004 4:22:29 AM)

get the X-Terminator Pro and the SH .28 and a nice radio and outrun the XLB for less money:P

salsa086 -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (11/23/2004 6:35:59 AM)

I think one of the appealing things about this vehicle is that its much bigger than a 1/8th scale buggy... check out this pic [image]http://graphics.globalhobby.com/glbgraphics/xlbad.jpg[/image]

it probably doesn't weigh too much more than a standard buggy but it has tons more torque and probably (just guessing here) as much acceleration...

as far as its size.... you get what appears to be about the same ground clearance as most truggy's.. so it will also be a kick ass basher that can go places regular 1/8th scale buggys can't...

Plus you get traditional buggy handling characteristics..... what's not to love?

from my perspective:

Pros:
1. better ground clearance than 1/8th scale buggys (equivalent clearance to most truggys)
2. better acceleration than most truggy's / monster trucks
3. traditional buggy handling characteristics
4. characteristics of a great basher
5. probably a better jumper than most monster trucks/ truggy's

Cons:
1. may be inherently weaker than 1/8th scale buggys (strength doesn't scale proportionately with size)
2. can't race against 1/8th scale cars in most classes
3. may not handle as well as most 1/8th scales
4. makes X-Terminator owners thread crap

beeman -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (12/13/2004 6:47:49 AM)

got mine today its unreal very fast & responsive..well balanced and put together blows my piece of crap genesis away by far.....

Muswagon -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (12/13/2004 1:22:22 PM)

I want the tires for Monster Truck racing, not many options out there for a medium spike that fits on Maxx wheels!

mkidrock -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (12/13/2004 10:32:32 PM)

Appreciate the link but Fast Shipping wont ship to Canada. :(

had enough -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (12/13/2004 11:29:49 PM)

I got to see one run at the track a few weeks back
,,, it needs metal spur gears
the plastic ones melted on the 2nd tank after break in
other wise it looked like a fun basher(since that's all you can really do with it)

JNS -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (12/14/2004 9:46:07 AM)

.46 engines are nothing but gimmicks, lower RPM and too much torque and yes i mean that, most engines dont make enough torque but then u put a .46 and much of the power it generates is wasted due to loss of traction, and they go through fuel in a fraction of the time a .21 would last, i'd rather have the SH .28 over a .46 any day (lighter too :P)

beeman -> RE: XTM 1/7 XLB (12/15/2004 4:43:28 AM)

really ive ran a gallon thru it and nothing but fun xlb rocks...i wonder what the deal is with that....
