I got a 2025 on my foamie, and when I give it a smidge of throttle, it freaks out. Sometimes when I give it throttle, it binds up and does not spin. Mostly it will gitter a bit then go.

Are there issues with these that I am unaware of or am I doing something wrong?

I've had similar problems, here is how I fixed it:
1. You might be trying to turn too large a propeller, unlikely but what is your setup?
2. Check your wiring from the speed controller to the motor to make sure all the connections are sound and there are no shorts.
3. If you're running a gear box, ensure the pinion isnt binding on the spur gear. (you should be able to turn the prop by hand smoothly without any catching - battery disconnected!)
4. The himax case is pretty fragile (I had one come apart on its first run before I even put the pinion on!), if your pinion gear was difficult to slide on, or its nose in crashed, you may have tweaked the crankshaft bearings and the magnets may be rubbing or binding - check the case really close, especially the black plastic part in the back and make sure its all square and not comming loose, and the crank turns freely and smoothly. If it is, the best fix (for me so far) is to send it back to MPI, they turn around in about 2 weeks and havent balked at repairing under warranty.
5. If all the above checks out good, try a different speed controller (if you have one) and see if it works. I had to send back a Phoenix 25 that was exhibiting similar characteristics with several different motors. The repair receipt said it got a SW update. (side note, Castle Creations gets 3 thumbs up for customer service and a lighting fast turnaround)
6. If a different speed controller has the same problem, send the motor back to MPI, there's likely a loose wire inside.

*disclaimer* I'm no expert, someone here might have a better way to check it all out and I'd be happy to hear more or if I'm even on the right track. There is so little information about these motors out there, the above is just conclusions I have come to after only about a year of trial and error playing with these things.

Me and a buddy of mine have similar starting problems.
Some times it try's to run backwards and locks up!
He has the CC 25 with mpi 2015/4100 on 11*47 and I have a CC 10 with the eflight 4100 on 10*47.
We both have the stuttering at start up. Once the prop is spinning smoothly it all clears up.
I have download the latest software form CC and it still does it. If I throttle up slowly or just gun it seems to be fine but, any thing in between just doesn't work! It is real annoying!
Let me know if you clear up the problem.

I got the same issue Rick is experiencing...

I got a Ultrafly 25A controller... APC 11x4.7, and the setup hasn't even seen the air yet...

I was thinking maybe the wires, since three phase, were not wired right...

They don't have anything in the instructions about which goes to what, just if it spins in reverse to reverse TWO of the wires... Seems like it's in the motor, and not really in the gearbox. Gonna have to nix the gearbox and try direct drive to see if it continues.

Crash,
It makes no difference which order the three wires are connected other than the direction of rotation. Even with the uneven startup I have still been flying the plane. I think it is just because of the large prop and small motor. Before you remove the motor from the gearbox just try to run it without the prop SLOWLY and see if it starts up better! Mine did but, you can't fly without the prop! There has to be others with the same problem.
Anyone?

I don't have a brushless sys, but I might add that it could be your receiver. I would lose controll for short periods of time and found out that something was loose inside. Maybe?

I can say with confidence that if the motor is jittering before it starts up, there is indeed a problem. I have cleared it up on two of mine going through the troubleshooting I mentioned above, and they run just fine now. Both are running on a Top Creations gearbox at 6.6:1 and a 12x6 APC prop. I can also say with confidence that other than rotational direction, it makes no difference how the 3 wires are connected.

I got the USB Link kit downloaded the latest updates and all three of my Himax 2015-4100 6.6-1 12-6 slo-fly combos are working great now. I was experiencing the same stutering problem on all of them with one set up that would not even start but now a nice smooth throttle up every time. Good Luck Yogi

Generally a stuttering issue is the speed control NOT the motor. The startup on the CC controllers tend to be a little tight and this can be an issue. Glad the new software is working correctly for you.
