I have a relatively new Saito 82AA 4 stroke engine that has high speed needle adjustment problems.

Symptoms are: Engine runs rough on low speed and when high speed adjustment is attempted It does not give sufficient high end RPM. High speed needle adjustment at that point moves nearly an entire turn with out engine rpm change. Transition is OK however. Fuel is OK, glow plug is OK and propeller size is correct.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

You do not mention if the low end can be cleaned up. Try leaning out the low end (pinch test will help) until it idles great. This may take a gallon or more of fuel and then see if the top end tunes nicely.

Zork:

You say relatively new, if that means 30-60 minutes total time it's a little soon to expect a good idle.

Newness notwithstanding, the early FA-82 had a back plate known to flex, allowing the inlet tube to come slightly unseated in the head, giving an air leak. Also, the early ones had only the o-ring to seal the pipe, without any support. Both these things can lead to an intake air leak, sounds to me like that's your problem.

Pull the two screws holding the carb, slide the pipe out, find a small washer to support the o-ring. When you reinstall the carb and intake leave the screws loose, slide a strip of paper against the screws from the bottom, then tighten them. This strip of paper will press the carb and intake a little tighter into the engine.

If you can't find a suitable washer, the carb gasket set from Saito/Horizon includes one.

Picture attached of the intake pipe.

Hope this helps.

Bill.

Sorry, missed two things.

The glow plug may be brand new, but if it's not an OS "F" plug, put one in.

The fuel I use is 15%, with some castor oil in the blend. Omega 15% is my fuel of choice. Excellent results, and even Saito/Horizon recommends the castor oil.

Bill.

Thanks Ernie. Think I have already tried leaning out the low end iddle but will give it another crak.

Bill, think you hit it right on the problem. I have noticed that when I put presure on the inlet tube it moves slightly. On the other handI have another Saito 72 and that inlet is firm against the head. Will try your suggestions and let you know how it comes out.

I do use OS f plugs and currently Omega 15% with Castor/synth mix.

I have already ran at least 2 gallons of fuel on this 82AA engine.

Thanks for your help

Zorka
