hey mike, i think you had the right idea with the skid fins, but missed during the execution. many guys run the skid fins perpendicular to the hull, where as the SW 36 runs them parrallel with the side, and you set them up in a vertical (relative to space) manner. people will argue all day long which one is better, but personally, since the boat isn't really a "race boat", it probably doesn't matter much

I learnt a valuable lesson yesterday. The cockpit lid does not float too well. My cockpit lid accidentally came off whilst running (the nut must have been slightly loose) and it went straight to the bottom of a fairly deep lake. It landed upside down on the lake and quickly filled with water before sinking. I've since retrieved the lid and fixed some foam to the underside.

I know the odds of the cockpit coming off are very low, but a bit of foam will save you the embarassing swim to retrieve your lid.

I have just broken my shockwave in and have noticed that the servos twitch when the boat is about 50 metres away from the shore. Both the rudder and the thottle twitch violently. Can somone tell me whether this is a flat batterry issue, or a more serious problem with the Control system. The boat has only been run for about 2 hours using alkaline batteries (not rechargable batteries).

What is the maximum range that can be expected with this RC system with good batteries?

Hey Schmuck,

My buddy had a prob with his radio system in the SW36, it would actually cut out in the middle of running it (very scary!!). I sent it back to horizon and they determined that the crystal on the transmitter was pushed in so hard that it cracked. They replaced it free of charge. i encourage you to call horizon and see what they say about it. since it is such a new boat they will probably fix it for free, like they did mine.

This could be a few different problems, but sounds like it may be this............
Check the header/pipe connection. Make sure that the header & pipe are not touching or able to touch when the engine is running do to vibration. Turn on the radio and reciever and start wiggling them. If you see a response then thats it!!! Just put some space between the two and tighten with pull ties. If thats not it look around and see if there is something else metal that may be touching the pipe or engine. Do the same process to see if thats the problem, if so fix/modify it.

It could be a battery power problem. The range should be about 1/4 mile from you. Make sure that the rx & tx are full charged by putting a meter on it. If you don't have one then I would advise to get one. Checking your power before running should be routine, both on the tx & rx. Even know you put them on the charger for a long time, you want piece of mind before you run.
You never know if something went wrong with the batteries & even know they were on the charger they did not charge or fully charge.

Here's one thats works well if you don't already have one.

Thanks for the info guys. I’ve checked the distance between the header and the pipe and everything looks okay. The problem occurs even when the motor is turned off. I got my mate to walk away from the boat with the transmitter whilst the motor was turned off and the servos went absolutely berserk at about 50 metres. I was using non-rechargeable alkaline batteries, but I did not expect this to be a problem after such a short run time. I’ve since bought a set of rechargeable batteries and hope that this cures the problem.

At this point, I’d like to thank everyone for all of their mods and suggestions to improve the shockwave. It’s been invaluable.

Hi guys. I brought this back up to page one so that we don't have a dozen questions asked all over the place. No, this is not an "Official" thread but it's one where you can keep one boat in to keep from starting other ones. Keep this one active and don't start a bunch of others, maybe I'll pin this and some of the others like the Nitro Hammer pinned also

I have an older OS .46 laying around and was thinking of putting it in a SW36 hull. I am going to buy a replacement hull from Horizon to use. Can i use the stock engine mount and just tap new holes in the alum. for mounting. Or is there an upgraded mount that I can buy to fit.
