What do you think about 3w24 with pefa canister turning 18x8 for this plane?
Enough power for 3D?

The 3W should not be enough. It will be enough only if it spins the prop at 9000 and the ready to fly plane weights 11 lbs no more. This plane will be more at 13 or 14 lbs with a gasser and canister and the engine will not spin 9000 on that prop IMO.

1. A Menz Standard 18x8 will fly a 12lb plane in 3D - it is dependent on thrust at low rpm where most 3D is flown and weight. Max rpm has nothing to do with it.
2. As well as they fly, C-ARF's planes tend to not be lightweights, but they are touting 10.5lbs and up for the 2X2. You can be sure that this is with a glow engine and CF pipe, Lipo batteries, etc. Best to watch the first to actually get the plane in the air and see what weights they actually end up with.
3. Your muffler choice is going to hanidcap your quest from a weight standpoint.

The RPM figure I gave was for the particular prop suggested for the 3W 24.

I fly 3D with a YS 140 DZ on a plane that weights 11 lbs. It spins an APC 18x8W at 8400 RPMs. I think I could use more power in my plane so that is why I said 9000 RPMs at least for that weight.

BTW I perfectly agree that top RPM does not have much to do in 3D but top RPM on a particular prop does.

I think it might take the DA50 too John. In the instructions Andreas says it was over 15lbs with the DA50. I'd really like to see this plane at 11lbs/gas but it looks like it won't be. I agree we will have to wait to see what they come in at in the hand of regular folks. Cool looking plane. I flew 2.3 all day and it was really nice!

I got the Composite-ARF Extra 2x2 on the way and already have a DA50 to go with it.

JohnVH, what servo setup would you recommend for 3D flying?

I was thinking:
Hitec 5945 all around? or maybe 5925's for elevators & ailerons and 1x5945 for the rudder?
Emcotec DPSI RV Mini 6 with 2x LONGGO 2000

Hey Gaaaz, IMO, on mine when I get one, I would probably go 8611 on the rudder, and some futaba or JR 70-100oz servo's on everything else. IMO stay away from hitecs, and put a 2200 fromeco on the engine and rx and fly it!

Mine is on order also. Has anybody heard when they will be shipped. According to the info, it is designed around the DA-50. Having a 2.3 with a DA-50/pipe combo, the thought of having the same combo and being 3 to 4lbs lighter excites me. (which is easy to do anyway) On the other hand, the thought of a messy nitro engine on a beautiful comp-arf makes me ill. Oh well, to each his own.

Hey Gaaz, where is Shaffen? I travel to Antwerp at least once a year and am there a week. Usually take the train from Schiapol, am I close? Been doing this for years, always look for a model shop but never found one.

Schaffen is part of DIEST and Diest is about 60km south-east from antwerp, between Hasselt and Leuven.
We fly on an airfield that has military activities (Para training) during the week and is civilian (Sky diving, soaring club, rc models) in the weekends and on holidays.
But during the winter the weather in Belgium is too cold, too wet, too windy, so we have to fly indoor (see
Indoor VIDEO just me havin' fun....

I know there's at least 1 modelshop in antwerp. Been there once, think it was called "Baillien"
I always go to Albatros in muizen (MECHELEN), TAMmodel in Grimbergen (Brussels) or Shamrock in Maastricht (Netherlands).

Gr Gaaaz

PS My CA rep. just ask me to pay the full amount for my CA Extra2x2, so it's on his way, should arrive before 30th january.

Gaaaz:
Thanks, will keep the info and check it out in April. Maybe fly into Brussells instead of Amsterdam, about the same mileage.
