The MAM is a great 8scale kit as many other 8scale kits are also. Regardless of what mods may need to be done to this kit... it needs far less mods than ANY! traxxas product... especialy in terms of handling more power. The pure GRUNT power of the xtm 24.7 engine is FAR beyond what ANY .15=2.5cc engine can make. What the MAM has going for it is a lower CG compared to some other m/t kits, gearing is to high imo, by using a smaller dia tire will make a big differance in excelleration/grunt on this kit 50mph is geared to fast anyway for most tracks/parks...

IMO, just stay away from the small engined 10scale stuff. their drive train parts are only DESIGNED for the small little .15 engines =(2.5cc) and at least the 8scales are designed for the bigger power and grunt of the .21 to .27=(3.5cc to 4.6cc) engines.

I have xtm, cen , and had a duratrax. also have a radioshack. my radio shack car is from 1996 when i bought it. 12mph still runs drives etc. Durable as hell to. broke one part and that was 2 years ago when i decided it would be fun jumping a car, the spoiler broke after 100 jumps thats it.. SO I guess you can take your false accusations and sit down.

My duratrax was durable to heck to. Got anything else to say buddy?

And ya u do get what you pay for, but its funny how my Tyco r/c took roof jumps, 67volts and kept going, while my 80$ ESC took a crap in 10min. 13T ESC for a 14T motor YA OK..

put ur foot in ur mouth thanks

oh ya cant forget about my NIKKO CAR with 14T Quad motor. Has done MORE FLIPS, more air, more rolls than my XTM MAMMOTH NITRO and not ONE THING has broke.

well if xtm would fix the diff problem that would be nice or if anyone knows a way around it i'm sick of hearing the clicking when i accel and the mamoth is a pimp truck watch the video on xtms siteand tell me thats not durable and i have to agre on the blue thunder fuel suckin a** it tuck out my 247 if u get a cage and the bell gears that is the best thing u can do other than that the truck rocks and for the guy with the air leak call xtm and tell them that expecaly if it had that prob out the box the replaced my clutch, diff and if u go to www.dadders.net they have the best mods u can get like the center diff cost a bit but saves the rear diff saving for one myself other than that the truck rocks awsome for jumps i've jumped it over my head and i'm 5' 10" so if that tells u anything

and xtm sells a 66 and a 61 spur also but i recomend the center diff

I stated earlier in this tread that the steering sucked on these trucks.....Well it turn out that the steering issue was being caused by a factory radio. New one is on the way from XTM, just thought i would post an update.

Suspension plates are weak get the upgrades it will help a lot and if your using it in the dirt throw away that 2 speed and put in a center differential #149794 with a 14T clutch bell and never look back. only other upgrade would be aluminum rear hubs. rest of the stuff is just pretty

Almost forgot, its pretty easy to modify the MMT 290cc fuel tank onto the Mammoth ST and that gives you about a half hour of run time

Greetings,

I just wanted to pop in and tell everyone reading a story about my XTM Racing MAMMOTH ST so here we go.
I went to hobby shop to look at offroad cars I have had a on road car for years bought used from hobby shop owner (his personal toy) so im not a young dumb rookie I am 40 years old and not at all new to nitro cars so with that said.

I went to shop to purchase Traxxus REVO hobby shop owner said “DUDE that xtm mammoth st is faster, tougher, and by far more stable not to mention $150.00 cheaper”
(FIRST CLUE)

Day 1
Bring home unpack fill tank with fuel and begin long break-in process (im gonna do it by the book) several tanks of fuel (about ½ gallon) and several hours later the sun drops behind the horizon so I pack it up and put it on charger.

Day 2
Can’t wait to get off work to come home and actually see what this new toy has to offer.
So here we are again im STOKED I am soooo ready to air this new toy out. Just a bit more break in time and I can start tuning for performance.
OK one tank down and and now I can start going fast. Man this thing has got some go. Whats this no steering lets see maybe interfeance so I walk over closer to car and its smoking I look inside and the steering servo is toasting so I turn car off.

RECAP
I have run a total of just a little over ½ gallon of fuel through this truck it is 2 days old and now broke.

Day 3
Call Global Hobby (distributor for XTM Racing) they say no problem get you a new servo right away. Im like COOL thanks. I thought it would be a big hassle but it wasn’t.
Ok 4 days later I get new servo and install its too dark to run so put on charger.

Day 7
Fill tank with fuel and im ready to play I make a small ramp to get oh about 2 foot of air with grass for landing. About ¾ of a tank of fuel and I hear clicking ok its just leftover pecan shells left by my squirrel friends…….NOPE not 30 seconds later I hear engine rev and car is stopped. So I take car into shop and check it out …. Results …. Both front and rear pinion gears are missing teeth.
Ok back on phone with Global Hobby this time not so easy they insist I abused car after much discussion (not pleasant enough to post) they agree to look at damage and replace if manufacturer defect so I pack it up and send it to them. 6 days later I have two new diffs in mail.

Day 8
SWEET im gonna get to play… install diffs fill with fuel run full tank out and decide ill charge and play next day

Day 9
Fill tank go out still tuning carb for just the right performance but not too much heat and about ½ tank throttle servo starts acting irratic thought interfearance again and shut down let it cool off turned car on and have steering but throttle servo is dead.

DAMN IM BROKE AGAIN this time must send to HITE/RCD, INC for warranty no phone number or e-mail just address.

Needless to say I have had the car for less than two weeks and its been broke more than its been running SO if given the choice I would highly recommend NOT buying the MAMMOTH ST it is impressive looking truck but my experience speaks for itself
Anyone else have a similar story to share?

I would like to try and defend your problem but I really can't, its been about a 60 / 40 shot with 40 being the bad side. The Mammoth is designed almost perfectly but the quality of the basic RTR leaves much to be desired. If the $150.00 had been put into your Mammoth as upgrades before you got it you would have been much happier. I would recommend a Mammoth Kit over any other kit in the industry but the RTR I Modify before selling it to my customers. Hope you get it straightend out.................if I can help just PM me and I'll do what I can

The Pro kit is the way forward. It is simply the highest quality, most balls out off road race vehicle that it is possible to own. I can double the huge 30 foot gap on our track lap after lap and just keep going. And the Axial .28RR is a hyper engine match for this truck.

And the truck can't be half bad, this thread is still going and has been since 2004, people are still talking about it.

The majority of problems in the stock RTR are caused by the 2-speed and chassis flex from the too-long-for-the-material chassis. The two speed puts excessive strain on the diffs and because the majority of people don't seem to realise that landing full throttle with the 40 series size tires spinning fast enough to push the truck to 50mph will knacker the diffs and strip the spurs it happens a lot. I never had a problem, but then again I'm not a newbie retard who doesn't realise that landing any truck at full throttle is likely to cause damage, or that its particularly important with this one. Couple to this the variable gear mesh caused by the floppy chassis (which, incidentally makes it an awesome race truck) and you get a lot of gear and drivetrain issues.

The pro beefs up the chassis, introduces a new brace system and gives you a center diff. Job done.

ORIGINAL: proxpilot

hey just beacuse it was my first RC doesnt mean any thing, im 25 by the way, the truck would get stuck in second gear all the time, burn out the clutch, couldnt get the motor to hold a tune beacuze it had an air leak couldnt even run a whole tank through it cuz it would get so hot it started to turn the pipe black, this was even after i had the guy @ my LHS silicone it for me. so i put it on the shelf after a month bought an LST and didnt have a problem besides one CVD break thats it. i just dont take something that I spend $400+ and beat the ever living **** out of it! that would be like taking $400 and burning it, doesnt make much sense now does it. just cuz you cant handle listening to the problems i had doesnt mean you have to insult me a talk to me like im a Fuking child!!!!!!!!!!
quote:

okay...my turn...

25 years old and you don't know how to use a silicone tube!! how much you pay for that ? and if you did know that then ove course the engine is not going to hold a tune.

these things are like your first real car at the age of 16 you beat the crap out of the old junker your daddy bought for you, and you learn to fix it! so by the time you got the lst you kinda knew what you didn't getting your first one.

the truck is good , strong and if you play with gearing you will fined the speed you want.

as far as hop-ups
-steel spur gears
-machined xtm shock towers
-alum hubs and upper arm ends
-new body- custom that truck make it yours
