Heli001 and all RCU staff,

I knew that last thread would be “moved”, as I posted it to make a point. I have no problem with any of the probably 1000’s of flying clubs that could start their own threads. The problem is, they end up being used by the select few that are members of that particular club. The “Clubhouse” to me is a place that ALL members of RCU should be able to participate in, in ANY thread. Having a thread that limits the users is defeating the intention of RCUniverse in the first place, is it not?

Why not have a separate Forum for “Flying Clubs”, where RC’ers can go to do their chit chat for the club they belong to. This would allow the rest of us, of not having to view those that don’t pertain to the general user.

If every club that wanted to have their “Club” represented in RCU’s Clubhouse”, we’d have to scroll back Lord knows how many pages, before we got to actual “Clubhouse” threads.

Just a thought…..

Gary

wasn't the new sepulveda thread for ohio/pa people? if so then it really isn't another sepulveda thread..only in title so to speak. please clarify and if so we can bring it back. I don't mind regional threads or club threads that guys want to run. If you have a club or region and you want to make a single thread for that club or region you can of course do so. Just don't make more than one per club or region.

If we get enough club threads here we can always create a club specific discussion forum section and move the existing threads into it but I anticipate we won't get a huge amount of active ones.

Marc,

One of the threads was indeed for the people of Oh and Pa...but all the post in it referenced the Suplulveda Basin postings....If the Northeast would like their own "regional" thread, they should start it under that heading, or any other region for that matter.....Regional threads would be a great idea, if they could be/stay on topic

WC - agreed.

to the sepulvedan's...please keep those posts contained in the enormous and ever growing sepulveda basin thread. if you want other regional or club threads please start those separately and keep them on topic so the forums remain organized for all of you the users.

thanks

I thought it was pretty cute to refer to Pa and Ohio as "waaay NE Sepulveda..." as a play that the whole country is connected to itself and that even though there are regional differences, we are truly "one", especially in the context of radio control flying; this was my purpose in calling western NC "far, far....SE portion ...waaay NE Sepulveda...". The whole original thread of Sepulveda Basin took on such a proportion with all the posts and pages (over 70 at last count), that it almost appeared that it might be the center of the RC Universe (sorry to borrow that title, guys, but you know what I mean), and that everything else revolved around it. I find it interesting, to a degree, how different flying can actually be in different parts of the country, but at the same time , how similar. Maybe what RCU can do is set up a library of links to r/c club websites, let people go where they choose and see what it's like for themselves.

Must be a lot of arm twisting to get people to post on a thread they don't like . There are a lot of thread that some people like but others don't. Your choice and mine!

It always surprises me that people object to the thread, if you don't want to read it don't click on it. As for the Sepulvada North, that was dedicated to a field about two hours North but I agree that it was just an extension of the original thread and not needed.

When the Northeast thread popped up I refrained from comment and Jetts himself even suggested a name change to keep the thread going and not confused with the "humongous" thread. I'd like to see the name of this thread changed as well to avoid confusion. There are always new people to RCU that have heard about the thread at the flying field and it would be confusing for them to come here and find several unrelated threads with the same name.

I think that interest or geographic specific threads like the Basin, Malaysian Hangar, young pilots etc. should all be encouraged and the clubhouse is a good place for them to coexist. If the time ever comes that they are making it hard to navigate the Clubhouse than by all means move them but I don't think we are anywhere close to it being a problem.

I don't see a problem with club threads. If more clubs want to start their own thread there might come a time when it would warrant opening a new forum for this, but for now the Clubhouse is the best place. I don't know any topic that will interest every member. As it has been suggested, click on what interests you and ignore the rest.

Hey guys-

I was sorta being tongue in cheek when I started that thread....A little fun if you will....the weather is crappy here, and the building season long. I can be a little eccentric, and so I thought, after the usual morning coffee, I'd have a little fun, and make some fun, and do a little satire. Sorry if I offended anyone.

I know there are threads for the basin ( been there myself to yack a bit) one for he Maylasians, "Young Pilots" ect....

I read the basin thread once in awhile just to see what it's like on the left coast, and what other places/clubs are doing in general.

If you all remember, I have my own private field, and don't belong to any club or, even the AMA. I was kind of hoping (at best) to find other "Outlaw flyers" in the area, and maybe even get a building/flying club going. I HAVE seen others flying on private lands in the area.

I realize that if EVERY person/club wanted their own thread, there would have to be a whole new Universe just to handle all that.

So....if you want, and it doesn't offend anyone's sensibilities, you can change the name, (as suggested in the thread itself) and relegate the thread to the humor section.

Just trying to keep it fun and retain my sanity (yeah right) up here on the cold grey North Coast,

Jetts

I wouldn't mind a few club threads, but if the clubhouse turns into a "club" only posting place, then where would us outsiders, who don't belong to some majority ridden club, hand out? I feel there should be a forum for "Clubs and organizations".

It's a bit ironic that this thread was started for the purpose of not having multiple threads titled Sepulveda yet it remains with the same name and only adds to the original problem. Could we please change the name to avoid further confusion.

I'm glad it's turning into a referendum on whether or not we should have club threads in the CLUBhouse and the people who tend to resent the Sepulvada thread (that they don't have to look at) can voice disdain for all the club threads that don't even exist.

b.b.,
who are these people who "tend to resent" the original thread?

What are you talking about?

No one is going to overshadow the big bad original "Sepulveda thread" 'cept maybe the "Maylasian Hangar".....it seems to have gotten some momentum going lately.

Jetts,
There are members and moderators who think the thread caters to a small group and has no place on RCU. I have heard this sentiment time and again from a minority that for some reason think it takes up resources or causes them to have to look at the title to often, I don't know the reason for sure. Maybe I'm over sensitive (I'm sure someone will quote that and say "yes you are" ) but others who participate in the thread have echoed this observation.

What do you make of people saying the Clubhouse is no place for club threads when there is only ONE club thread? If that isn't directed at the Sepulveda thread than what is it directed at?

At first I thought that the Sepulveda Basin thread would just cater to a couple of Californians. Then I started reading the thread, and also began researching the history behind this place. Come to find out it holds a lot of signifigance to our hobby. Kinda like the Bonneville Salt Flats did for dragracing. A lot of well know stuff has happened there. Although I have no interest in posting in that thread, it does offer some good information.

Maylasian Hangar is great in that I get to read what people are doing on the other side of the world.

Since a few Montanans have highjacked a thread or two, we toyed with the idea of starting a thread for the boys in the Big Sky State once they all get electricity and running water. Idaho and Wyoming too Oh, and North Dakota, to make up for all those jokes .

I really don't mind a few club specific threads, however, if there ends up being a couple hundred, then maybe a forum for just clubs may be better.

Until then, post away

Scott

Haw Haw, couldn't resist!

I think the Clubhouse is the place for a "Universal" clubhouse for all fliers.

I think perhaps some are jealous that there are a few specific threads....such as "Sepulveda Basin" or the "Maylasian Hangar".

I'm not one of them, but I do agree with those that say if there were a thread for each club, it would be too much.....we all fall under the heading "CLUB house" or so I thought.

I will say again...I was kinda "making fun" I mean have you read the "Basin" lately? "I'll be flying tomorrow." "Yeah, me too, have you seen the weather?" ect.

I agree that "if you don't want to see it, don't look at it", but is there really a reason to perpetuate a thread that goes nowhere?

I think my head is starting to hurt from so much "philosophizing".

1+1+1+1=4 At least it was when I was in school. That was very clever of you to "point" your finger at the "minority", without really "pointing".

Re-read my post and tell me where I said I resented the Sepulveda thread. Hopefully you can read, as you obviously can't count.

My "poll" thread was directed at the Sepulveda thread, simply because there were 3 of them. And yes, I thought it was a little too much for the Clubhouse and thought they should have their own Forum.

Your thread (IMO) is nothing more than a chatroom that probably wouldn't last if it was in a separate "Clubs" forum, which is probably why you'd like to keep it in the Clubhouse. Everybody's from the same area and flies at the same place, but there's a need to ask how the weather is? Who's going to the Basin? etc, etc.. I think (again IMO) the thread is kept alive with drivel to keep it on the front page....no different than "bumping".

Personally, I think it's great the users of the "Basin" have a place to go to online to bs. I've even flown there, and think it's a nice set up....although it can get a little crazy on the weekends. No AMA, no membership costs, no day use fees, tables, restrooms, paved runway.....how great is that? Wish we had something like that in our neck of the woods.

My concern now is, what's going to happen.....if I or anyone else was to start a "Club" thread, don't you think some would believe it was done out of spite? It could get ugly. I expressed my opinion, and that's that. The Boss has spoke, and that's even more "that's that". There's no need to keep harping on it at this point.

And for whatever it's worth, I never intended to piss anyone off or get the other threads trashed. I added the poll in jest, with the intent of discussing it with others, and hopefully having RCU and it's users finding a solution that would make everyone happy. It obviously didn't do either.

I'll apologize to RCU for the "Poll", however, I don't believe I need to apologize for my opinions.

Gary

As AirGar mentioned, the boss has spoke. There is no need to keep picking at the scab. I'm closing this one.

Now it is time for everyone to make that last trip to the grocery store in preparation for Thanksgiving. We had tornados here this morning, and the flying field is under water. Hope it dries out enough that I can get a little flying in during the long weekend.
