Thinking about getting the twinair. Could someone tell me how complete the kit is. Does it include hardware etc. It I get it, I will probably make it a taildragger with retracts. I've got 2 os .46fx's laying around too.

The Twin-Air 45 includes all the hardware for the control linkages, and plain wire tricycle landing gear legs. No tanks, wheels, or any of the other normally builder supplied things.

The included linkage material, unlike many kits, is more than adequate for the job.

Bill.

Get it, Build it, Fly it!

You'll be glad you did.

And I have no relationship, commercial or otherwise, with the manufacturer.

Mine is an excellent flying plane. On 1 engine, the bane of most twins, if you reduce to half power, the plane is easily controllable with rudder. It does all the standard acro except 3D and is easy to land. Landing is comparable to a Stick, but a little faster.

Mine is powered with 2 Magnum .52XLS 2-strokes and is plenty fast even with 12-4 props.

The only changes I would make from stock is to replace the balsa main spars with spruce so you can cut away the leading edge. The instructions now tell you specifically to not cut out the leading edge. This reduces your tank choices since the tank had to sit on top the leading edge. A Sullivan 8 ounce slant tank is about the only good choice.

If you will search back through this forun, you'll find an orange Twin Air with retracts powered by 2 OS .46FXs.

Actually per John at NE Aerodynamics you can cut away some of the leading edge without causing any structural problems, but he does not recommend going more than 1/2 way through it. After hearing this I cut mine about 1/2 through and it definitely helped with fitting tanks.

I was very surprised by the balsa spars. But I haven't had any problems and I haven't heard of anyone else experiencing a structural wing failure on the Twin-Air. I think that all the center sheeting and the nacelle structures must add strength.

Agree.

One of my TwinAirs is nine years old, flown off a rough grass field, and not every landing was slick.

One "landing" was rough enough to break the fuse in half, but I've never had a problem with the wing.

Proof, I suppose, that a well-designed and built plane doesn't need spruce spars!
