I don't really mean this to sound like a smart answer but...

There's only one thing needed for an engine to run and that's methanol. To keep it running for more than a few seconds the methanol needs a certain amount of a suitable oil. Just these two ingredients make a very acceptable fuel so anything else can be called an additive.

The most common additive is nitro in whatever proportion suits the ego Nitro will add power over the base fuel but at the expense of increased fuel consumption (and cost).

Another additive is a few drops/gallon of ArmorAll which eliminates foaming. However it seems that the latest formulation of ArmorAll doesn't contain the silicon which is the active anti-foaming agent.

Acetone is a handy additive at about 3-5% because it increases the combustion flame front speed, reduces the tendency to pre-ignite with lean mixtures (helps stop throwing props on 4 strokes) and reduces the ability of methanol to absorb water from the air.

Gasoline is sometimes added for better economy but the engine will tend to run a little hotter.

Up to about 3% ether can be added to help cold starts in very cold climates.

Of all these additives, the only one I use on a regular basis is the Armorall. If I happen to think of it I'll add some acetone but I've never found it necessary to add nitro in any of my engines.
