My DIP switches are set the example you provided. Before I changed them the 1st time, I wrote down the original DIP settings.

Is there anyway to reset the receiver? My heli was turned on, when i was messing with the DIP switches and all a sudden the heli took off in the air full throttle and smacked the wall, didnt break anything.

any other suggestions?

hi all
i just recived a main gear and a tail frame. i bought the new tail frame because the pivot on mine was broken (i did fix it though). ironicly the tail frame i just recived had a broken pivot as well. oh well. i will replace the main gear over the weekend and hopefully be flying soon.

I also received a replacement main gear for the one that I broke a while back. Will do the fixing this weekend and also the servo arm adjustment. Also I have bought some pingpong balls at K-Mart and will make myself a crash kit because I know I'll be needing it[:o]

I've had this darn 22D for almost a month and still not able to make it stable.[:@]

well just did some "flying" and i broke the stupid gear again[:@]. i am going to put a duct around the tail rotor so that when it hits the ground it wont cause the gears to shread. either that or try removing the tail whole system, go separates and use a direct drive tail. execpt that will cost a fortune, so that is my last choise. i probably will get a duct around the tail and buy a heading lock gyro. my gyro settings are causing the tail to be really twitchy, so it just keeps moving left, right, left, right and so on. o yea will a co-pilot work on this heli? thanx

Try adjusting the "LIMIT" counter-clock-wise little by little to stop the twitching of the tail.

Here's my observation:

DELAY: for controlling the yaw; when it's too much DELAY, it would cause the helicopter yawing to the right.
LIMIT: when it's too low, the helicopter has no response; when it's too high, it cause twiching of the tail.

Hi,

Not sure if it’s been said before, but I had the same problem with mine.

It would start to spin to the right when I tried to take off. This was due to not enough force from the tail to counteract the torque from the main blades. The reason was the rod that drives the tail was faulty/broken. At the front of the drive rod where the cog spins on the main gear it was just spinning and not turning the rod enough. If you can move the main blades and hold the tail blades still then this is the problem. I purchased a new drive rod and and new cog (although this was fine and not broken).

One other thing it can be is if the gear housing for the tail has moved back a little. If you have knocked/landed hard it can move back and there is not the same amount of drive to the tail. I just undid the screws and cracked it open dropped a few blobs of CA glue into it can slid it on towards the heli as far as I could.

If you are in Europe then the best place to get parts is from Skyline Models This 22D is a rip-off of the MS Hornet and ALL parts are the same. I have purchased a few parts and all have been with me next day (i am in the UK)

HEY GUYS!!! Sounds like SHAFT PINS to me. These little pins go through the main gear and shaft and hold the gear and shaft together. After a strong crash sometimes the rotor keeps spinning while the tail is held, and this "shears the pin", or splits it into Three (3) pieces one in the shaft and one on either side of the main gear. You can replace them with a short section of paper clip that has been curved slightly for a friction fit. Also make sure that your shaft collars are snug down to the bearing or the tail will spin at higher rpms. I have posted these before but sounds like somebody sheared a pin.
I really want to go collective with separates, so i have looked further, and am waiting on a used hornet II frame which i hope to have a few parts for cause of the tail assembly, battery and three servos for the 22d- gyro, and tail servo from the gws. Don't get me wrong, this is not out of "insane 3d lust", I hear this bell-hiller mixing is very smooth and stable and if i ever get any thing to simply hover, inverted, I will die happy, hovering is fun, hovering inverted is like eating controlled substances, except that its not bad for you or society in general. I have seen the "carbon fiber" blades some of these 22As come with, just grid printed plastic like the body. I Do have to say thou the other parts of the 22d are rather high quality. Any one having "Really good luck" with their 22D/A? Spot landings, pirouettes, nose in hovering? Technically we should be able to do loops or rolls or something, but who knows.

The shaft pin that holds the main gear and main shaft together is very weak. I had a hard time removing a piece of fragment of the shaft pin left inside the main shaft after a minor crash. I use the shafts from the burnt tail motors as shaft pin and they are very effective and strong.

Hi guys. Been reading all the problems with the Dragonfly/walkera 22 mostley with none stop spinning and gears failing. I'v had mine for two weeks now, and guess what I'v got all the same faults. After a few days of trying to hover/crash/fix I took it compleately apart and rebuilt it bit by bit applying glue to all parts that needed it. Unfortunately after crashing it so many times there were some broken parts like the swashplate/fin/boom support holder/and two servo push rod ends, with all parts boched up until I get new ones I was ready to try again only to find that one of the tail gears had all the teeth worn away. So now I'm back to square one again. I'm in the UK so I might try Skyline Models and get the Hornet parts they look reasonably priced, but can anybody tell me if the Hornet parts are better/stronger than the walkera stock parts. This might help some of you guys, you can buy the 22 bare-bones helicopter with motor but no electronics from HobbyJapan2000 for £48. +£12. p&p. I have worked out that I will spend about £50. + p&p just for the parts I need to get mine back in the air (before I wreck it again) My idea was to get one from HobbyJapan2000, strip it and put it back together again then put the original radio gear ect back in the new one properly this time, and still have loads of spare parts. I imagine they have lots of Kids and women putting these kits together in Taiwan or Hong Kong and thats why they fall apart and need setting up. I have a tip for the main shaft pins, I drilled the two holes out to the size of the retaining clips used to hold a car body on to the chasis of any radio control car sold in any kit shop, cutting the clip on the bend using the straight part. Its far stronger than a paper clip. I know it's a failsafe but I was fed up of getting them darn pins out all the time. and up to now it's one of the parts that hasn't broken again. I got the GWS PG-03 Gyro with my 22 which was mounted flat on its back above the TX, after consulting a dealer of this gyro on the web I was told it should be mounted vertically or it would not work properly, this might stop it spinning, let me know if it works on yours. I wont be able to try it on mine till I get my new bits. Keep your eye on HobbyJapan2000 in a week or so they will be selling parts for this heli and possibly upgrade parts. maybe cheaper than the Hornet upgrade parts. Can anyone tell me what the top left toggle switch/PLT knob and the PZT knob on the TX do, as you can see I'm new to this heli thing. I dont have these problems with my little Dragonfly 4CH setup.

This is very industrious, however as you noted yourself, the fatal flaw:

Paper clips and a wire cutter can get you into a life time of shaft pins in under a minute for free. If you have trouble getting them out use a beefy pushpin to pook em out. Chasis pins cost money. And the all different parts that could fail 'cause they won't take a long time to ship. And money. So I would say stick to paper clips, but there might be an even better solution out there like...hey a one way or somthing, yes that is even better but way more $$ than these paper clips. So don't go drilling your shafts out yet, unless it seems like a real good idea, in which case, you will not be stopped.[8D]

The Hornet parts I got from Skyline were much better than the parts supplied from Japan!

Even if you give it a try, they will be with you next day and not next week if you are lucky!

I ordered the wrong parts from hobbyjapan and had to send them back, which was fine as it was my fault, now they are saying they have not received them and are not sending me the correct parts!!!! It annoys me considering I got a mate of mine to purchase a heli from them at the same time!

So I would say buy from here, or give it a try, if you don’t like it, just order from there.

Thanks for the advice SWASHPLATE I can see where your coming from, however the damage to the tail gears were partley caused by the boom coming adrift the first day I got this kit and before I rebuilt it. I should have sent off for the gears then, insted I thought I had caught it in time. obveously I didn't.
Thanks NEIL, I have just orderd the gears from Skyline Models, Hopefully I will get them Thursday or Friday and we will se if I can get this thing to stop spinning anticlockwise. Picking the guys brains from Skyline Models about the GWS PG-03 Gyro that I got with the kit, he told me if it was positiond the wrong way it could cause that problem, so to keep it vertacul and if that dosent fix it turn it upside down. We'll see!!

Hey NEIL, which gyro did you get with yours, If its the GWS PG-03, how have you set yours up .I know you have had it in the air before you had problems with the gears. I have had problems with it spining anticockwise from day one, But as I have said before the tail gear box moved and after fixing that the boom moved away from the main shaft gears, all these faults would cause it to spin.

hi all. after shreading my main gear a while ago i have just ordered 2 new main gears from rc-expert. i want to make sure i do not shread the gear again. i was thinking about putting a duct around the tail rotor, would this work, or would it affect the rotor. does anyone have any other suggestions on what i can prevent shreading. thanx

Hello, I have fixed my tail spinning problems. All I needed was super glue and problem-solving ability.

1st thing you do is remove the tail boom and rudder assembly from the heli. Next, remove the small cheap-o looking plastic gear on the end by popping it off the graphic shaft. Glue this thing back on. Next, on the rudder shaft in the rear past the differential at the spot were the blade grips attach, apply more glue to this area. Don't apply to much so that the slider arm on the shaft is impeded. If so scrape it off. If yours does not appear flush to the end of the shaft, move it there and apply the glue.

Even if your rudder is ok now, I recommend doing this anyway to prevent future frustration. Your cost is super glue only. A crash caused by out-of-control heli will be more.

This is a cheaply made heli, but with the fixes I made listed above, it has been flying ok with the exception of a little vibration.

Here are a couple of other things to watch out for with the 22d.

1. Tail rotor control horn stuck with ca to the pivot shaft. The result was a burned out servo.( the pivot flexed, i had no idea)
2. Tail rotor stinger touching the ground with the helo at rest. This caused the helo to jump all over the place. It took 3/4" spacers between the landing gear and frame to correct this.
3. Could not get the helo to balance correctly until i made a bracket to mount the battery. The center of the battery mass has to line up with the aft edge of the motor.
4. The helo came with a bent tail rotor shaft.
5. The battery charger stopped working after about 10 charges.

I have still enjoyed the 22d. The sim worked first time. As a newby, i have learned a lot. No broken parts yet. Touch wood.

Do 11.1V lipos do any damage to the electronics on this bird?
Will the 7.4V lipos fly this model? voltage seems a bit low.

The 11.1V 1200MAH battery lasts twice as long as the stock battery, probably 9~10 minutes, however, you need to be careful because the 11.1v delivers a lot of power making it difficult to maintain at certain altitude. The 7.4V battery will be too low of voltage to power the d22.

Hey guys! After reading all the postings I thought I would share my experience with my 22D.

I soon realized that the bird is not setup very well out of the box. So I recommend you go over it with a fine toothcomb and adjust things like.

Main gear mesh: I was told by a local heli pilot to use a piece of paper and slide it between the main gear and the tail gear. This would ensure enough backlash.

Motor: Make sure your motor is in good contact with your main gear but not too snug. When you have the proper amount of tension on the gear it will spin the gear freely and without strain.

I took my servo rods and modified them so I could infinitely adjust the swash plate to whatever position. I used Micro Flyer rod connectors and rebent some wire to fit?? Or what ever they are called. Undo the screw slide the wire up or down to adjust the swash, it works very well.

Upgraded Parts and parts replaced:

Main gear
Main gear shaft
Main blades (went to weighted carbon)
Upgrade to a Piccolo blade stiffener (mounts perfectly)
Relocated my battery under the receiver in the canopy. Fits perfect like it was made for it.
Re-balance the Heli with reference to the main shaft using a small tire weight on the tail.

I'm waiting for a new receiver to arrive it just didn't want to work one day?? Didn't even twitch the servos when I powered the thing up...DEAD ??

I found a good guy who is very helpful and stocks all DF22d parts. Josh is in Bozeman Montana and his company is called Birddog Distributing 406-582-0633. Check him out and support him if you can, because the guys in Japan have no clue!
