Better yet, a Super Nova and a Alpha 4 combined makes a great combination for giant scale airplanes. Fast charge capability as well as 4 ports and full battery management capabilities.

Regarding the discussion on flight times and battery capacity. I typically use dual 2700mah NiMh packs in my airplanes, and get 7 or 8 flights on a full charge. This is with 10-12 JR8411's, and a no-fly voltage check of 5.9v at 1000mah. This still leaves me with 25% capacity remaining as a safety buffer.

I typically take two airplanes with me every time I fly, and that gives me a total of 10-12 flights during the day without the need for a field charge. 12 minutes each flight, 10 minute of fueling and inspection time, thats 22 minutes per flight. If you add in the setup time when you arrive, and packing time to leave, you would need to be running full out for about 6 or 7 hours before you would need to even think of recharging. Add in social time and a lunch break, and you would have a very full day if your goal is to deplete your packs.

I just connect up my airplanes when I pack them into the trailer. Takes all of 5 minutes to connect them up to a pair of Alpha 4 chargers, then drive home and put the trailer in the garage. I connect up the 120v to the trailer and forget about the airplanes till the next flight day. Before leaving, I disconnect them just and read the display to verify charge, or see what the capacity was if I chose to capacity check them. Then its off to the field without having to worry about any charging at all. I have a fast field charger (Super Nova), but have yet to actually need to use it. Besides, with 3 battery packs in one airplane, at say 30 minutes each pack, that would be an hour and a half of waiting just to charge one airplane! Thats a big part of the day.

This is just presented as an example of how easy it is to use overnight charging vs field charging. Even if you can charge your packs on the drive to, or at the field while socializing, its still time lost at the field. With larger airplanes, you also have more packs. Two airplanes, 6 packs. If each pack takes 30 minutes on a fast charge, 6 packs takes 3 hours of field charging. There is no getting around that. So no matter what you do, you loose 3 hours of flight time which is lost to charging duties. Instead, I load up on capacity, and save the 3 hours at the field.

If my airplanes only had a single RX pack, I'd probably go the field charging route. 30 minutes waiting for one plane is acceptable, while 1.5hrs waiting for one airplane is not.

Everybody has different needs. What works for some, doesn't necessarily work for others. The Sirius chargers are good chargers, but I am not willing to loose 3 hours of time at the field just to charge my airplanes when I can spend 5 minutes setting up an overnight charge, and and fly to my hearts content all day long without needed to charge. It just works for me, your mileage will vary
