This looks great, I can hardly wait for it to come out! Does anyone have any dirt on this puppy?

Has anyone else noticed this full size fuse plane at 37" is supposed to weigh only 20 oz.... No way. My 36" purpose built electric e taco weighs 28 oz all up with 2500 ma batt and its a very light profile.

Actually, I've been flying a production sample Mini Funtana for a few months now and a number of prototypes have been flown in the past 6 months. With the included gearbox (6.6:1 ratio), 12x6 prop, E-flite Park 400 4200kv motor, Thunder Power 3S 2100 10-12C capable pack, Phoenix 25 ESC, 4 JR 241 servos and a JR610M receiver the weight is just under 25 ounces ready to fly. This is the recommended motor combo and performance is awesome. Current draw is around 21-22 amps on a fully charge pack, producing close to 40 ounces of thrust. On a 25 ounce airplane, this is incredible vertical performance capable of all the 3D manuevers you can think of.

The Mini Funtana was demoed at SEFF this year and more recently at the JR Indoor Festival where everyone was very impressed with the power and performance. You can see a video of the Mini Funtana being flown by Mike McConville with the recommended motor set up here:

We should be updating the web page specs very soon - it should be around 20 ounces RTF less battery. The first batch of Mini Funtanas should in stock at your favorite local shop just before Christmas!

You should advertise your weights noting less battery. Isnt pushing 22 amps thru a 180 watt class motor a bit much?

I really want one of these things! I am going to put in my order this weekend!

I have an AXI 2212/20 with a Jeti 18 amp waiting for a plane now since I just lost the current ship yesterday to a radio failure. It was an Air Blaster.

Will this motor combo be okay for this Mini Funtana? If so, should I direct drive it or use the gearbox?

    Thanks

    Riff

    Riff -

I dont have direct experience with the 2212/20 motor, but have flown the 2212/34 motor quite a bit. While the 2212 series motors are excellent for powering 3D models 16-18 ounces, it might be a tad bit less power than you'd like on the Mini Funtana for all out 3D performance. I believe one of the 2808 series motors might be a good fit, but have not tried one myself.

The included gearbox readily accepts our Park 400 brushless motors which sell for under $55 most places and provide outstanding performance. Yes SMALLFLY, 22 amps can be too much power for these Park 400 class of motors without proper cooling and throttle management. An add-on heatsink will soon be available for the Park 400 motors which will aid in cooling (cut outs have been included in the cowling to increase airflow), but use of the 4200kv motor for all out 3D flying will still require proper throttle management to keep the motor temperature under control. As you will find in the manual (now posted on our site), we do cover this. Using the 3700kv motor, max current is around 18 amps, which still provides good vertical performance while keeping the duration up and motor temps down. I assure you, both motor set ups were extensively flight tested in extreme conditions (that day the video was shot it was over 90 degrees with 90%+ humidity and the motor performed very well) and with proper cooling and throttle management they both worked great.

As noted in my first post, we will update the weight on the web as soon as possible (it has already been corrected in recent print materials).

I couldn't wait for my park 400 motor to show up so I put a himax 2015-4100 that was laying around in my funtana with a Thunder power 1350 three cell. It turns the 12-6 pretty good. It will just hover at full throttle. The plane flies like a scale aerobatic plane with this set up but not a 3-d plane. the motor gets pretty warm if you push it. My park 400, speed control and batteries showed up at the hobby shop yesterday and are going in tonight! Can't wait. This is a great flying and beutifully made airplane.

Will the Jeti speed control 18-3p work with the eflight 400 for this plane? I have it setting here new, and would like to know before I used it.
