This should be a "sticky" thread up top.

With all the warnings here, I'm suprised to see so many people still complaining about their washer s shredding in the engine.

How many threads have we read that say, "Well I have almost 2 gallons through my truck, and it still runs fine with the washer , maybe it only happens to some engines". Then a couple weeks later the same person comes back and says, "Damn that crappy washer ! My engine is shot now, there's metal shrapnel all over the engine. Now I have to wait for Losi to send me a new one. This truck breaks too much!"

Look, anyone reading this who hasn't done so yet, REMOVE THE WASHER . It may not have busted yet, but it will. It's a time bomb waiting to blow, each engine may have the timer set differently, but it will hit 00:00 eventually and then "BOOM".

The washer is an afterthought, and was added to take out a small bit of play where the shaft start hooks up. Off-the-shelf Mach .26's do not have the washer , because it's not part of the original design of the engine. Your engine will last much longer with that little bit of play then it will with the washer in it. No other engine on the market has one in it. The washer is too small and thin to be able to handle the high rpms, heat, and tight tolerences of a nitro engine.

If you decide to leave the washer in place, then don't come here crying about how it shredded and now your engine is dead. You have been forewarned!!!!

Seal it with Permatex Ultra Copper High Temp Sensor Safe Silicone Gasket Maker, but make sure not to get any in the engine. I run a thin bead of it around the back of the block (on the shiny part) with my finger. The backplate has a rubber o-ring to seal it to the engine. I never trust those, as all it takes is the tinyest imperfection in the o-ring to cause an air leak.

There is a close-up picture of it above, I don't know how much more specific I can be. The washer on Pinole's grubby little finger goes on the pin sticking out of the bottom of the connecting rod, directly above the washer in the picture (the part with the copper-colored bushing). That is the evil washer .

jefx,

Thanks, espically for the picture. I just this evening took out the washer in my LST, it was a tank away from distruction, paper thin, with LESS than one gallon through the engine.

See that's what I'm saying, each engine may have the timer set differently, but it's definately set!

Does anyone have the specs for the screws that hold the back plate? I want to make sure I can find some replacements before I go ripping into this motor. The stock screws are really in there, and will probably be destroyed during removal.

When you get one of them out, take it to the LHS and match it up with the ones they have in stock.

Wow. Yes, thank you Tweety!

There has been rumor that Losi has stopped putting the washer in the latest batches of Mach .26s. If
anyone can confirm this rumor, it would be appreciated.
