I sent mine back for the free upgrade a while back with a note that I want to use the charger for lipo's and nicad batterys. I also asked for the new operating procedures. MRC paid for return shipping and included the instructions, it took a little over a month to get the charger back. You only need to send the charger, not the cables or power pack. I have charged 2 and 3 cell lipo batterys with no problems, the charger shuts down and beeps when the charging is complete, seems to be a good system after a very poor start.

thats a good question.now that you tell us of your delema,it would be a good idea for someone that does have the new featured instructions to list it here in this thread. 'ANYONE'!!!!!!

i just sent mine out today.hey ray,i know someone has mentioned on here about getting it back around 1 month or so.how long did it take to get yours back?

man,i know i'm going to be happy with it once i get it back but i'm going to be bored for a long while since it is my only charger right now.

I just tried my li-po function and to get to it you have to input the number of cells with the batt hooked up and then verify that it says li-po on screen. I can try to scan instructions and post them if that is legal?

MRC posts PDF instructions for all chargers except the 977. I'm going to email them to see if they will add it to their list.

UPDATE: I emailed them and requested that they post the instructions with the others at:

http://www.modelrectifier.com/resources/resourcesBatteryChargers.asp

I'll post again if/when I hear back from them

I got a response today in my email from John at MRC. I was told that they are "working on" putting the instructions on the website, and that he will mail me a copy right away as well. Next day service, not too bad!

I mentioned in my original query to MRC that "Many of us at the RC forum I frequent have and use the 969, and many of us have had the upgrade service done...however, few if any of us have received the new instructions." So, an email to MRC would seem to be the ticket for anyone who needs a copy.

I got a letter in the mail today from MRC. It included the following note:

"Your charger has received a complimentary upgrade. We have increased the charge rate to 5 amps for Nickel Cadmium and Nickel Metal Hydride cells. The discharge has been increased to 4 amps. The lithium charging circuitry has also been upgraded.

DO NOT USE this charger without thoroughly reading the instructions for Lithium batteries as circuitry has been changed. Always take care when charging any battery especially Lithium polymers."

It included a copy of the regular 969 instructions, with the "upgraded" lithium instructions. I made a PDF of just the Lithium instructions, which you can find at:

http://www.westernallegheny.com/forumpics/969upgraded.pdf

if anyone needs anything else from the instructions, just let me know.

I recently purchased this charger (mrc 969). It came with a slip indicating it had the charge/discharge and li-po circut upgrade. I purchased this charger specificaly so I could charge my li-po packs for my 18th scale cars. Is this charger safe with the upgrades? I do have a li-po specific charger also but I wanted a charger that could charge ni-mh packs too for occasional 10/th scale racing. I wish I read this thread before I made my purchase!!

I've used mine without trouble since the upgrade. There are definitely easier li-po chargers to use, but the 969 works fine.

The li-po specific charger that I have now only charges at pre set amp rates and I got the 969 so I could adjust the charge rate to exactly 1C, also charging 2 packs at once would be a time saver too. My main concer is safety,,and these batterys arn't cheap to replace!! So is the "upgraded"969 the same charger as the 977??
