I was able to install the ailerons & horns on the wings tonight.
Started fitting elevator servo. I epoxied the horns to the ailerons.
Is that OK? Did you guys use the velcro to mount the servos? I think
I'll try double sided tape. The velcro seems too thick. Also, will the
servo covers on the wings stay put with friction, or do they have be affixed?

I think I'm going to use the truss thingy when I epoxy the wings & fuse.
That way I don't have to worry about getting epoxy on my DF.
Maybe 2 screws per side, as well...

Also, I found 2 of the clear rubber bands in the box. I half hitched them
together & it seems to fit well...

I probably have less than 2.5 hours in this so far. The next one I'll be able
to build between the post office & the house!

Later!

Johnny C!

P.S. I'll be out of town Sunday to Sunday, next week so don't let this
thread die, while I'm gone!

Yes, I epoxied the horns to the ailerons. I used double sided tape to mount the servos, and they're in there GOOD. That stuff it great. I would also glue the servo covers down. I'll be waiting to hear about your maiden.

Guys, according to Curtis Matikow (the fellow that did the review in the RCJI magazine) the engine IS an 061, and just has a larger diameter cooling head (which would use the different plug I guess) but the engine is indeed an 061, which was verified by measuring the bore/stroke.

The fan diameter is 80mm

Just FYI...

Oh by the way I cant resist.. I am ordering one too!

I've got mine!!! Got some pics taken, I'll post tonight. It's an incredibly nice kit. Very well packed. Why does the box have a handle? The jet won't fit in there after it's built! Seriously, I'd be po'd if it had been the original price. What was it,,? $350!? For 1/2 that it'd be a good plane, at $125-150 it's was a good value, at $110 it's freaking GREAT!!! And when you get it, the foam can be stuck together and you can start making jet noises...

Got mine the other day, but due to family stuff, didn't get to play with it other than open the box to make sure its not damaged. Pulled it out tonight and I'm also impressed with what comes in the box. For $110 I would say its definitely a great deal. One of the more useful things it actuall the little stand for it. Will come in handy for lots of planes.

Got to get the 061 ready for break in this weekend. Haven't thought too much about it, but what do you guys think about prop for break in? Break it as normal or do something special in light of the intended use?

Hi, Dukester
Yea I agree, I got mine today by fedex and got the engine together and ready for break in, im waiting on my rx in the mail still and I havent decided on a attery yet im thinking li-ion prysmatic flat cell ,, I think for the original price of $300 it might be overpriced after all it is a fomey but at the $100-150 range it is well worth it! I find the kit to be vary well packed and complete they even give you the electric starter, fuel filler, but the instructions are a little vauge, more like blueprints than instructions. can't wait for the madian, good luck dukster, there are a few great threads on the mig here if you need help do a search on kamdax mig 15 ,, easytigerrc has some good threads I think he has built like 3 of these so far so im sure he knows whats up,
later,
Hurricane bill

I have been flying this sweetie for a year now. I am on my second gallon of 40%. You guys bought a great plane at a fantastic price.
Here are my experiences.
I would not recommend a HS-55 type servo for the elevator. I think there is too much strain on the little servo motor. My first Mig crashed after many flights do to elevator servo failure. I am now using a HS-81 there.
The clear rubber band will break with no warning. As a matter of fact they fail with the plane sitting in the stand! I have had 3 break and I now just use a #64 rubber band.
I have had 2 HS81 throttle servos fill with oil. They were sealed with shrink tubing, and an "o" ring on the output shaft. The throttle servo needs to be moved out of the exhaust duct (but where?).. I finally bought their throttle servos. There is only 1 seam in the case. Maybe it will hold up better in the stream.
In the videos the factory posted on there website, they actually mounted the receiver on top of the plane behind the canopy. So yes, they totally failed to engineer this part of the kit.
Last note. If you are thinking of ordering spare airframe parts, the "unpainted" Mig on Tower's web page is indeed painted fuel proof white. It makes a very attractive Mig. I like it better than my silver one.
Enjoy the decals..

Thats exactly what I thought after looking at those giant decals and then at the molded textured surface they go on......

Hmm, oil in the throttle servos. That's why I'm going to put mine in FRONT of the fan. Then I'll just bolt the fan on backwards and run it in reverse so it doesn't cut the linkage.
