I'm a little concerned about the elevator setup. If the elastic breaks, then it's bye bye Mig. I think I'll add a Robart hinge inside the existing setup to hold the tail on in the event that the elastic does break.

I'm using a JR 700 RX, HS56 servos in the wings, an HS55 for the throttle and an HS81 on the elevator. It sure comes with nice little wheels, but I think I'll skip them to save weight; and our field is grass anyways.

I was considering servos myself today. I don't have any small spare ones due to the number of small models actually airworthy (a record at my house believe me). Since I have to buy new, after doing some looking around I'm thinking about going to go with the GWS Naro +F BB. 24 oz of torque at 10 grams. Looks like about about $15 each.

I added the Robart hinge. I cut away the centre portion of the stock hinge piece and secured it with a couple of small screws.

I can't find this part in the instrucitons, does anyone know what is? It looks like it might be for hand launching.

Bipe, Thanks for the template! The plastic thingy
is the drill fixture. Place it on top of the engine
mount beams, slide forward untill it stops & drill
6 holes. I used a 5/64 drill. It works great. Great
idea as well, about the Robart hinge. You're pretty
handy to have around!

I screwed two wood blocks to my workmate, so I
can run the DF unit less the fuse for break in.
I'll let you know how loud it is. I'm off tomorrow
but the wife is working, so I can run it up in the
driveway without the dirty looks!

Hey Bill, do post that cleaning method ASAP! I have neglected to clean mine a few times because of how troublesome it is, and now I'm worried that the slime is slowly sinking into the foam.....I just hope that fuel-proof paint is doing its job.

Did you ever think about cutting the fuel line really short and just leaving it inside the duct tucked right beside the fan? Mine does just fine there.

By the way, I'm using GWS NARO servos for all surfaces. I haven't had a problem yet. Well, on my electric conversion at least.

I'm maidening the (glow) mig today! WOOHOO!

spencer,
will do my best to get the cleaning and maninence method posted soon, im working the bugs out. thats one of only a few design flaws kamdax naglected to think over while engineering the mig 15, im not sure if the oil will sink in the foam? but aftter awhile the oil will add up and throw the (CG) off and add alot of excess wieght. My idea is farly simple to do and should help out,
I got my tower pro micro rx today from hong kong man is this thing tiny yet has a rande of 1300 feet, perfect.
i have bench ran a tank of 30% through the engine, its loud but not annoyingly loud, it sounds like a jet if you asked me
the rx is the final thing i needed to get this mig in the air ,,,,, ok well im waiting on the weather too
im goint to post pics soon ,,,,,,of the finished mig,,,,

later

I also have a vary neat trick i learned from easytigerrc he used this trick for his alfa mig 15 edf ,,,
the trick is ,,,,
when mounting the front red nose cone, you can hot glue two small and light paperclips to the inside of the fuse, then,
drill two vary small holes in the red nose cover in the middle lined up even then put a rubberband looped in the small hole you drilled in the red cone then simply hook the rubberbands on the hook shaped paperclips you glued prior. then slide on the top fuse,
make sure they is not too much tension on them as it will rip the hooks out, you want it just tight enough to give a little stretch when you put it back in position, the red nose cone will never fall off in flight with this setup, total security, unless a hook comes out
i will try and post some pics of this trick its esier to understand when you just see it,

I found the sheet with the engine mount instructions. I feel stupid now.

Take a look at the attached picture and visualize it on the bottom of the plane. It looks like it could be used for hand launching.

My Fan adapter has the hole drilled off centre, so I made a new one. The original is on the left in the picture.

WOOOHOOO!! I maidened the Mig about an hour ago and boy was it a HOOT! You guys are going to love this jet. It blew my electric version out of the water (plus it puts out a great smell )

Some recommendations:

Make sure your throws are at a minimum. My Mig was a little touchy and I had to go easy on the stick. She just needs a little bit.

I don't know how well it would have flown with gear, but it was a blast without it. My buddy just handlaunched it and off she went. I was having so much fun that the sound seemed to fade away, so I wouldn't even bother with a muffler. What sound I did hear sounded pretty cool. The sound of POWER.

If I had it to do over again, I'd glass at least some of the plane. The field behind my house is a little rough on foamies, and even though the Mig lands like a charm (plops right down in the wind), I managed to put quite some battle damage on the bottom half of the nose. If it was glassed it wouldn't have a scratch, and I really think she could handle the weight gain. Mine is about 15 oz.

I used no cheater hole(s) and I don't feel I needed them. The Mig is fast enough for me. It's a lot of fun.

I still haven't ROGed...doing that tomorrow, weather permitting.

Great fun. Worth every penny.
