I was planning on hand launching mine, but if it balances better with the wheels I may go with the landing gear. I figure that any extra weight should be something useful rather than lead, if possible.

We fly off sod. The only time we have ROG capability is just after
they harvest, but then it's just black silt. Very bad for engines,...
especially a ducted fan, I suppose.

Got my mig for christmas. YEAH... the tower wish list thing is awsome. Keep the thread going guys lots of great info. The kits looks awsome, I really like the box it comes in with the little caring handle and everything.

Hi All
Marry Christmas everyone,
well I got my mig ready to maiden yesterday, all my mods are complete and i tried to take pics to post but my cameras batteries were dead. I will try to post as soon as possible , It was 3degrees outside yesterday and i didn't care . I wanted to fly! well got to the field and the engine wouldn't start it was so cold i had forgotten to adjust the throttle needle valve to start it.
well todays a new day and I think i might take the mig out and do a quick patrol and then warm up a little in the hanger, lol ,,,
hopefully today i remember to open the needle valve, it is 10degrees warmer today
my mods ha vent seem to affect anything so far and the best part is, it should be easier to clean and work on the DF unite, I can actually take it out if i need and put it back (it's removable)
wish me luck ,,,,,
Later all
Hurricane

Well, it was cold, but the Mig flew!!!
I may have it a little nose heavy, because on the first toss, even with
full up it made a very soft, flat landing. I increased the elevator throw &
the second attempt flew out of Randy's hand. He said he didn't even get a
good push. I had to pull elevator trim full back, & still had to hold a little
up in it. After the first flight I also increased the aileron throws quite a bit,
as well. I like my rolls pretty snappy. Landings were great when I could get
it turned into the wind for final. One time I didn't have enough room, so I
landed downwind. It lands great, just get it down flat. It slides real well.
I flew it a total of three times. Wind was probably 10mph, but as I always
say, "You can't fly without wind!" I wanted to try a ROG (with out the wheels!)
off the sod, but the wind was from the wrong direction. I think it will, with a
little breeze!

I was a little disappointed with the speed, but it was hard to get a feel for the
actual speed with the wind.

Loops were pretty ugly as well. I guess I will increase the elev throws, as well.

Too much fun! I look forward for flying it on a calm day.

Good Luck!

Move the CG back slightly if you can. My electric version performed simliarly to your description on my first flights. A slight CG change and increased throws on the elevator made it a whole new plane.

Has anyone purchased the Kamdax throttle servo that tower sales for $19.99 ?? Wondering if it will hold up any better than the others have been?

Well, after a little discussion with EasyTiger, I have decided to cut a cheater hole in my mig, right where the nose gear would be. He said it would really add some "umph". I have also removed one head shim from the engine. So I expect I will have a noticeable increase in performance. I'll try it tomorrow and let you all know how it goes.

Hey Bill, I'm still waiting on that cleaning technique...

Flew the Mig with the cheater hole today. I really couldn't tell much difference in performance. In fact, I think I am going to glue the piece back on.

Spencer are you using the scale gear or do you have the "race" version. I will start on mine tonight. How many tanks are you guys using for "break in" . If I like this one I will definately be looking into the 777 whenever it is available.

I'm not using the landing gear. I figure it will just add weight and drag, and with a jet this size, weight needs to be at a minimum. It also looks a lot better in the air without the gear. If I wanted to ROG, I could do so without the gear anyway.

run maybe three tankfulls through and then go flying. Some recommend more, but I don't think it's necessary. The engine will "break in" with each flight.

In the mean time, I'm going to try to find some way of making mine FASTER!

Spencer, why not try the .080 upgrade from Tower? It cost more than the mig right now, but.... well it cost more than the mig...

When I get the time, I'll put a VA on the fan and see what happens. I think the bolt pattern is the same as the Norvel. If I had the $$$ a G&Z w/pipe would be nice to try!

Be careful here. I'm pretty sure Tower has their specs wrong on that setup. Kamdax only sells a .061 engine so unless this is something they have done in the past but discontinued it is the same as the stock setup. The 80 in CTDF80 refers to the diameter of the fan unit not the displacement of the engine.

I have sent a request for clarification to Kamdax on this issue and will report what I find.
