Hi Harald,

At last i found you [;)] i would have liked follow this forum before but the pasion of this hobby was born into me very late. your work is amazing and inspire me to build my own model. At this moment i am building an static model of an f16 scale 1:5. like your model i am sheeting with balsa wood, in other words i am in the page 2 of your project's web site jajaja. it will take me a time i know but i love it. Harald I need your help i try to find the correct profile for the wings. can i use the same profile of the actual f16 with the same washout? do you know a list of profiles used for these kind of scale jet models? some modelist suggest to me use the same of the actual f16 NACA 64A204 and others think it hasn´t stability at lower speeds. the thing is if i select another profile i have to modify the fuselage near to the root. the thickness of the profile in the root of the actual f16 is 4% and its important that this modification in my model be minimum.

greets and again thanks for share your work,
Pablo

You said that you are building a "static" or "non-flying" model. This means that you can use any wing profile that you want.

static=plug

bruce88123 -> RE: big SU 27 Flanker Project in Germany (1/9/2010 2:18 PM)

That changes the entire meaning of his letter and now makes sense. Thanks.

hi bruce88123,

Sorry the confusion. First Harald built an static model thinking to build in composite material its mold and then the final model rc su 27. i am thinking to build an rc model too of my custom f16. do you know a list of airfoil used for this kind of jet? thanks in advance.

greets,
Pablo

Per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-16_Fighting_Falcon the F16 has a NACA 64A-204 airfoil. This claim is supported in http://www.aerospaceweb.org/aircraft/fighter/f16/ however this http://www.aoe.vt.edu/~mason/Mason_f/F35AndrewsS03.pdf claims a NACA 65A-006 wing. http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/airplane/geom.html has some interesting info. http://www.ae.uiuc.edu/m-selig/ads/aircraft.html also lists the airfoil as NACA 64A-204. This site MAY have useful info also. Didn't have time to dig into it very far. http://www.drones.com/rec.models.rc.air/

hi bruce,

plop!!!! i've confused you again jajajaja. it must be for my bad english sorry. i know NACA 64A204 is for the actual f16. it has not objection. however, modelist think NACA64A204 it´s not been designed for subsonic speeds. so it could have problems at critical situation that is at lower speed. i´ve noted many f16 scale models of diferent builders (with the exception of the Marijn's f16) have thicker airfoils its because they give an excellent lift force at lower speed and they have a blunted leading edge. the naca64a204 has a sharper form on l.e. that is to cut the air at high speed. thanks for the information. i was just looking for my f16 model=plug=future rc model 1:5 (now thats clear? jajja) a database of airfoils for this kind of "model" jets in particular and not "actual" jets or model sailplanes (maybe they used for this i dont know but they are more thicker don´t you think?) the idea is to reduce the long list that many programs like profili has and then compare the airfoils at the reynolds wich my model works. i hope to find with this and demostrate that the Marijn's airfoil is correct and finally be sure my model will fly YUPIIIIIIIIII!!!!!

Pablo

Ask him!
http://www.avonds.com/

My colleague has his F16 and I saw it in the air at landing position. Perfect. Low speed(35km/h ),high angle 35 degrees AOA and stable! No bank left right! Just stable!

I think that the profile at the fuselage is something like you say (or some 4 or 6%) but at the end of the wing I saw that the airfoil is something like this one http://www.otherpower.com/images/scimages/7526/blade_composite.jpg BW-03. And it is twisted forvard (-) 20 degrees..

i wish mod would remove this last posts have nothink to do with Haralds SU27
Pablo your project sounds interesting!
why dont you start a new thread so every one can see it?

I agree with you George just delete my post of airfoil design thats mean all my post here jejeje except this, please. Thanks CarLazar.

Just to finish my friends, i want to salute this work again. Harald, its amazing when you build something from nothing and little by little we see how it grows [sm=thumbs_up.gif]. My best wishes for your next projects and don't forget to share your work with us i´ll do the same in a new thread. keep up the good work and fly with care guys. See you soon

Pablo

SU27 JUPITER is on the way [:D]

yeahbaby -> RE: big SU 27 Flanker Project in Germany (2/28/2010 8:49 PM)

gorgeous!!!!

bambam102 -> RE: big SU 27 Flanker Project in Germany (2/28/2010 9:37 PM)

Jupiter???

harald huf -> RE: big SU 27 Flanker Project in Germany (2/28/2010 9:44 PM)

Jupiter colours:

bambam102 -> RE: big SU 27 Flanker Project in Germany (2/28/2010 9:52 PM)

That plane would look beautiful no matter what colors you used.
How you find room for a second flanker is amazing!

invertmast -> RE: big SU 27 Flanker Project in Germany (2/28/2010 10:33 PM)

Absolutely amazing! Harald, if ya ever decide you'd like to part with one of the kits in exchange for a F14 kit let me know :)

fredmdbud -> RE: big SU 27 Flanker Project in Germany (3/11/2010 8:33 AM)

Actually, that is the "Test Pilots" paint scheme.  Not sure where the Jupiter comes in, maybe an inference since the Su-27's original engines were made by NPO Saturn?

harald huf -> RE: big SU 27 Flanker Project in Germany (3/11/2010 7:51 PM)

You are right! Rusian test pilots is the correct name.
"Jupiter" seems to be the very first sponsor, the label was painted on the side of the inlets.

Harald

ianober -> RE: big SU 27 Flanker Project in Germany (3/11/2010 7:55 PM)

Great stuff Harald, I would love to see more detail as to how you do your layups, vacuum bagging or wet layups. The plane is gorgeous!
