I´m using TNT CG Extra (3/16" .

http://www.tntlandinggear.com/store/shop/Product_List_Gear.htm

( If you jump into the pool with the stock, you most probably will never get out of it...)

Good luck.

my pops is building a cg extra 300 and went a little crazy with choosing the engine instead of getting a engine with a little more power needed to hang it buy the prop he went with a zenoha g-26 the smallest prop he could put on it clears the ground by 1/2 inch and about 2 mm of space inbetween the edge of the firewall and the backing plate of the engine i cant wait to see how much weight he has to put in the tail of the plane

Hello these are the mods I made to my CG extra .
1. Fiberglass Cowl and pants ,Stans Fiber tech
2.Dubro Glass landing gear
3.Enlarged the rudder
4.2 servos in the wing
5.2 servos for the elevator
I used sullivan Metal horns on the rudder for the pull pull system. no plastic and dubro single bolt thru on the Elevators and ailerons. Also all 4.40 hardware. I did move my servos Rud & ele back to the next bay for more room ,the pull-pull is very close and a pain to get it to clear where the plans have it .Plus I didnt like that 1/8 lite ply servo mounting board, it can flex under heavy loads.

Mods I wished I would have done.
1.Moved the centerline of the elevators forward about 1 inch and added balance tabs
This mod is for 3-D flyers as this plane needs very small amount of input on the elevator anyway.

By going with the servos in the fuse and not in the tail I was able to maintain the CG balance point without having to add additional weight useing a 91 FX with a bisson in cowl muff.

Flew one for about 2 1/2 years till battery came undone while playing with cg. You know the rest of the story. Had an OS 91 fx with a graupner 14-7 prop. Aluminum landing gear. Best plane I ever had. Would do flat spins perfect every time. Compare all the planes I fly to it. Keep it light and you will love it. It is not a 3-D plane. Fly it like it was designed.

Some progress. The rudder will have more authority, also ailerons, it was a 3D kind of modification.

The plane is on balance with the Saito 180 and a 6 volt 2700 map battery pack below the fuel tank and two elevator servos at the back. I need to paint the cowl now. The LG is a bit forward to avoid nose over. It is turning out just the way I wanted.

Redrata, Looks great. I have my wings ready to be hinged with Robarts hinge points and tail feathers done and hinged. Ready to start the fuse. See you have 2 elevator servos and that is my plan also. What servos did you use? How did you arrive at the servo location? Looks like they are directly opposite each other. Any hints please.
Any help or advise will be appreciated.

I am using two standard futaba servos, but at 6 volts. I should replace them by two Futaba 9001 later...... I am using one Y servo reverser at the tail. They are located just as back as possible so they almost touch each other inside the fuse. Also, I placed them up enough so they dont interfere with the pull-pull system which exits at the lower slot provided at the fuse. I am using a JR 4721 for my rudder. Two Royal multiplex at the ailerons.

I have just finished construction of a Goldberg Extra 300. I have a Saito 100 engine, fiberglass Specialties cowl and landing gear, 3" tru-turn spinner and APC 15 x 6 prop. I have put two servos for the elevator in the tale. Checked the balance last night and it is 5 1/2 " from the leading edge. I have not weighted the plane yet or covered it, but it seems to be light.

I have weighted mine, with a Saito 180, stans fiber cowl, TNT thickest LG, 2700 Expert 6 volt = 9,9 lbs (4.5 Kg)
This is a very good plane, it is not a Patty Extra from GP, but it is a nice kit that has been around for a long time and definitely fies incredible smooth. My plane is ready to fly now, just waiting for spring. I guess that yours could be around 9 lbs. or less.

Guys, what are your recomendations for mounting the landing gear. I am using a TNT 3X16 and have beefed up the original mount with some larger 1/8 ply. Should I use 1/4X20 nylon or what and how many fasteners should I use? We have a fairly rough field and I won"t be using wheel pants. Have seen too many LG'S ripped off and the pants go up through the wing! Have a flying buddy that uses 2 1/4X20's and that is not enough. Your thoughts and ideas please.
