Well looks like this plane will be my first step into GIANT warbirds, I plan to switch over to GAS for as many as I can. Just ordered the kit last night.

I plan on putting a Zenoah G62 on it, I can get one at a good price, and from what I can tell is a good combination for this kit.

I plan on glassing this kit, so I hope the G62 will handle the xtra weight.

Any building suggestions, warnings, retract suggestions will be appreciated.

This is my longer term project..

Randy, I flew a Byron Corsair with the G-62 and considered it a perfect match. Mine was about 30 pounds dry and flew with authority. Your TF bird should not weigh quite that much but don't sweat it if it does. Best of luck, Chad.

Never done a really big bird, but I am in the process of my first 'glassing job, a .60-size CAP 21. I don't think that 'glassing necessarily means alot heavier and It has been much less tedious than I originally expected! I think I will stick to 'glassing for all of my nicer, more complicated planes as they just clean up and wear so much better than all of the " 'kotes".

I have never glasses a plane. I have glasses a few RC boats, and th finish was far more superior than any coating. PLus I can't cover worht a crap

Hi Magnum, I have a friend in our club that has a Byron Corsair, the same basic size aircraft you are going to tackle, that fly's and looks fantastic! it has a Quadra 50, yours with a G-62 should be great!

Thanks Bud,

I talked to a few people at the club today, and from what I can gather only one other person has one. It weights 26lbs with a Moki 2.1.

It has changed hands a few times but has never flown. They say it looks to good to risk flying it..:

I have the Topflite Corsair, Robart retracts, Taurus Engines 3.7ci/62cc, full house weighs in at 25lbs..

I am very pleased with this model, it flys well.

Becareful to not slow the Corsair down to much on aproach... It will tip stall.

Hey Micheal,

25lbs would be even better, if I can keep that weight down. Did you cover or glass yours?

Have been looking over some pics to get a scheme for mine, I am considering adding a few drop takes and rockets under the wings (non functioning)

Glas to hear it flys good, from what I can gather from everone they will tip stall when slowed. Goos thing our field has a LONG runway to bring it in hot with the flaps.

Hey Micheal,

I posted a very simular question on R/C Online several months back. I have a CJM Sea Fury kit that should come in around 28 to 30 pounds. I was asking about twin engine sizes for it and complaining about how much they cost. Somebody suggested that I forget the twin and to go with the simple, time-proven G62. After he posted that, several people chimed in saying that it would be a great combo.

What you are planning is very simular so I would think it would work out great for you too.

My Corsair is painted in the classic insignia blue. As an experiment rather than glassing this model we used the tried and true method of paper and dope... Finish painted with Pactra Aero Gloss... It came out very nice, proved to be lighter than fiberglassing and is easy repairable if required...

There is one major consideration that I can suggest that you consider; build the mass aft of the "CG" as light as makes sense.... I had to move my battery as far forward as I could and then add nearly two pounds to achieve the proper balance... My engine weighs approximately 4lbs., a heavy engine such as the G-62 will solve that problem. The G-62 should be a grat combination for this airframe...

From what I found the G62 will indeed be the right combination. Far better shot than the US 41 recommended

I am not very good at the paper method, however I am sure it would work. Haven't decided on firm trim yet. But then just about every Corsair picture you see is blue.

I did find one that was a color scheme I have never seen before, gotta find it again.

Soo. I guess that rules out moving the servos closer to the back of the plane huh? I hate long servo pushrods. However, the way the Elevator looks on the plan, it looks like a PULL-PULL may work.

BTW.. What type engine do you have on yours?

I am using the Taurus Engines 3.7/62cc engine. The engine actually belongs to one of my race planes, as a back-up. I mounted it in the Corsair for break-in. The stock 3.7 is 4-1/2lbs but this has been lightened and massaged, ended up just a smidge above 4lbs..

The Corsair really zips around the sky with this engine on front...

I think the G-62 is a great choice for your bird. Believe it or not I have one on my 44 pound, 102 inch Messerschmitt 109! It has been flying now for six years with that motor. It is well broken in and turns a APC 22 x 10 Two piece prop at 7,600 on the ground. While take off with this model requires a scale length roll out, it flies around at just over half throttle for cruize.
The key to the performance is the prop, I tried others early on and the model barely got airborne. Rest assured that is one great motor and a good value, I recommend it for my kit of the 109 as well. Good luck!

Thanks Patrick,

I agree with you on the prop. You can have all the motor you want, but if you don't get the right prop, you will never have good performance.

44lb 109? That's a Big plane. But I am finding I like flying the bigger planes better. Almost no comparison!
