Grayle,

Good to see you here again.

I don't know if I can help much, but here goes.

The Rossi I use has a different kind of muffler (round exhaust port, silicone D ring gasket, and a spring strapped around the cylinder). Because the exhaust port is round, I can turn the muffler to any angle. I also had to support the back end with a tuned pipe mount. When I did this it came out better above the wing. The muffler is also longer since it's a tuned pipe, so by the time I'm out of the muffler, I'm also above the wing.

I don't know if you can put on an exhaust port extension that allows you to get your muffler above the wing. Morris Hobbies sells an adapter for some other popular two strokes to allow you to use the Rossi muffler (I forget what engine you are using now). They claim a performance increase. (Expect a noise increase also.)

The wheel wells I put in mine may have helped too, but it might be hard for you to put those in now.

How's your flying been?

Dan

I'm running an OS 46 AX and it has the square/rectangular shaped muffler. I don't know if I can turn it 45 degrees (the two flats won't line up). That would help me if I can. Flyings been going great so far, no majors crashes, I have five planes now. I just maidened the 4 star 120 on the fourth of July, I mounted a Toro 25cc conversion engine from scott ellingson(Brillelli) and it flies great. I am still nervous to fly the nobler, but I hope buy the end of the summer, I'll have it up! I did manage to fire up the 46 AX to see how it ran inverted, and it seemed to do OK. Now I'm just concered with the wheel wells getting full of oil and possibly soaking into the wood in areas I may have missed when painting, or through small holes like for the pushrods!!

Grayle-you could just fuel proof the wheel wells. I would think either thinned epoxy, or aerogloss would work fine.

Well, my Dad and I finally got the Nobler finished and maidened it last week. He installed an OS .52 FS, and it has flaps, but no retracts. The first flight went well, it was fast and a little bit of a handful especially on the elevator, so we added some expo. The Ailerons didn't seem sensitive enough though.

We would have flown again, but ran into a bit of a radio programming problem. I set up a mix with his JR 662 but the servo plugged into the auxilliary slot's trim did not follow the aileron servo. In other words, only one aileron servo could be adjusted with the trim switch. But I think we will have the problem fixed by the next time we get it out.

Good flier!

Ratt Belly,
Ye JR has a program opption that will allow the trim to adjust both- read, read the manual, its in there, sorry i cant remember it offhand, its a different mixing program you need to use.

I didn't have the manual with me at the time. We tried mixes A, B, and C but I couldn't get them to work. I didn't use the Flaperon mix because it has separate flaps. I guess we may have to move the flaps to the gear switch and utilize the flaperon function.

Here are some pictures of the RC Nobler along with a vintage Control Line Nobler.

Just thinking about this thread and am going to fly my Nobler for the third time. Our field was really rough all year and is finally getting better.
My madden flight was on 12/31/05, without the canopy installed.
Now it is all finished and am trying some 30% nitro in the Magnum 52 four stroke I have installed in the plane.
It seemed a little under powered, however that was with no canopy installed.
I hope it flies better today.
Thanx,Bill

Good Luck. We found the OS .52 fs to be good power. We are hoping to get a couple more flights next weekend.

Hi, everyone, its been a while and I finally have the balls to try and maiden my nobler. I went to the field last night to fly my gasser 4 star and after getting it fueled up and ready to go, I found out the receiver battery was completely dead. Luckily enough I brought my nobler. Well the dead battery must have been a sign. So I fueled up the nobler, started the engine, and adjusted the needle. The OS 46AX ran perfect. Now comes the bummer. I try taxi under a little power and I can tell the tail seems a little light. We have a grass field and the rear just kept bouncing. I didn't get to far and the thing nosed over! So I tried again, and nosed over again. The third time the right wheel shaft turned ninety degrees, and found out the set screw let loose up on the retract mechanism. I tightened it down and checked the other side just to be safe. I taxied out again brought the power up a little more and bam prop hits the ground and kills the motor. So much for that, I gave up. I have it balanced at about 3.75" back and I think I'll try to move it to the rear most CG like Jimcork to me to. I might also try to angle the retracts a little forward with washers under the trailing end of the retract mechanism. I was using an APC 11x6, but I think I'll try to gain some more clearance with a 10x6. How's it going for everyone else? Grayle

Grayle,
We had ours balanced at the forward most recommended CG and I found it fairly pitch sensitive. I would be careful about moving it back too far. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

Where are you flying?

Jason

I fi8nd the 10X7 prop to be ideal on mine with FX46
do angle the wheels forward CG at rear most do not use too much travel on elevator and use at least -40 expo if you have a computor radio
expect a sensitive elevator and quick ailerons
beautifull flyer, not a beginner`s plane but real pleasant lovely flyer
in my own opinion.

Jaques,

The manual is still on Top Flites web site. It has the small version of the plan that is used for the construction.

Here's a link: Nobler Manual

I think you could blow up most of what you need from the last pages. Let me know if this doesn't do what you need.

Dan

Ratt Belly, I fly at grassfield in Osseo/Brooklyn Park/Champlin corner.(picture of me with my 25cc 4 star gasser under the tuesdayflyers, 4th picture down) I have my CG set to the middle of the range, I really don't want to move it back if I don't have to. I just want to be able to get it off the ground. Where do people from Buffalo fly?

Skypup: I'll try that 10x7. Are you using APC, Wood or Master Airscrew? What were you saying about the wheels and CG? I had trouble understanding the beginning of that sentence. I do have a computer radio and I do have the expo set to about -30 on low rates, which I plan to keep on lows for a while. How much throw should I be giving the ailerons and elevator on the first flights on low rates? Thanks, Grayle
