I friend of mine made his with a 3 piece wing. The center section stays on (but is removable) and the outer panels come off. His separates the wing from the ailerons out. Seems to work pretty well too.

I did this with my Nosen Mustang. I used the aluminum spar blades and aluminum chanels that are used by Byron to assemble the wing in three pieces. The center section goes out to end of flaps. This allows me th assemble the model, air line etc and check out before leaving the house. Ican then roll it into trailer, and all I have to do is attach the outer panels and she is ready to fly. I used two aluminum spar blades per wing. The allen head bolts were on the bottom of the wing. you use an allen driver through small holes in wing to tighten the bolts. Worked very well. Did not have to carry around an eight foot plus wing.

Hey Doug in Denver,

Did you say you are building a Ziroli/Saxton P-51? What does this mean? I have a Saxton fuse for the 100" P-51, but no wing. Will a Ziroli wing fit this fuselage? If so, I think you have solved a major problem for me!

Hi, Charles...

Mine came with a foam wing, stab, fin and a canopy.. and was Labeled as a Ziroli 100 in. P51-D. But was produced by Ralph Saxton in California. Also included was a single sheet of hand drawings of not much value as to anything excepting the foam parts and the rudder post. There were no rib patterens nor the airfoil shapes of the foam wing, stabs and etc. There also were two fuselage foam formers included already jammed into the fuselage, but not fastened inplace.

Direct comparision to the following plans that I have on hand...though I don't have a set of Ziroli P-51 Plans to compare to and can't tell that way..

To the Pica Plans...they are of the wrong (too small) and not very scale. And of course the Top Flite G. S. is no where close to scale, and still to small at 96 inches.

To the Doss Steed P51-D that I blew up to qtr. scale it seems closer to it though still not to the scale of the Steed Mustang....but closer to it than the others. The Laminar Wing of the Steed Mustang lets that out though.

If you could get/borrow a set of Ziroli P51-D Plans and have Kinko's blow em up a bit it just could possibly fit the wing saddle of the Saxton Mustang. I would guess that it is a blow up of the Ziroli, though I can't swear to it untill proven so.

I can only guess.

There is a build thread on a Ziroli/Saxton P51-D that shows some things of interest. Will try to find it and post back here with it.. if your interested ??

Doug in Denver,

Sounds like I have the exact same parts and drawings that you described with the Saxton. I tried to build the wing using the cores that came with the fuse, but it was a miserable failure - came out WAY too heavy. I designed my own wing (wood construction, Ziroli style) to fit the fuse and may go with that. I've framed-up the wing and test fitted it to the fuse and it looks OK. If you could dredge up the thread on the Ziroli/Saxton, that would be great! The Saxton fuse I have has the Carbon/Kevlar reinforcement and looks to be a pretty good fuselage in terms of scale outline and shape. I'm very interested in completing this plane. I have a Sachs 5.8, Robart gear, and some Barton (I think?) wheels for it.
