Hey Skyflying

- great thanks, that helps a lot... but when you say:

"A single carbon pushrod will do all the work in this setup". ... you mean for the elevator right? cause a rudder pull pull system is 2 cables...or are you running one short horn for a regular rudder setup that looks like a pull pull from this angle I see? Can't make it out if there is a horn on both sides or not.

One rod to push and pull. I thought of the cable thing, it just didn't seem like the set up would have the right leverage to me. I have one push rod for the rudder / one for the elevator.

Hey Skyflying and friends

I was looking at different types of push rods at tower etc...are your carbon rods the type that slide in a tube, or the arrow shaft type that just hang. If they do hang, do you need to put any support anywhere inside the fuse?

I bought some semi flexible Sullivan composite carbon 3/16 shafts with outer tube guides which seem pretty good, but they're not the 100" never bend arrow shaft carbon fiber type. I think these are good enough for this giant size plane?

But the retract tail wheel needs to be pull pull because you need loose wires when it retracts I presume...so would kevlar work or does it have to to be steel wiring?

Did you use 3/16" wire to do your elevator function connection? I bought some 1/8" by accident and think I probably should not use it just in case, seems pretty strong though. Trying to figure out the best linkage situation for this too...probably will need to build a hatch for access there.

Not going to use pushrods. In an earlier post you'll see that I built the elevator servos into the stab - got rid of the joiner that way too. The rudder servo will go in a hatch under the stab. When I used pushrods before I supported them at least halfway in the fuse to take the strain off. I like kevlar or coated wires for the tailwheels.

Hey Capt G

Yeah I chickened out on the servo in the stab idea like you did...but I started doing the inside hidden elevator rods, kevlar steering on the tail retracts, but rudder is still in the air....leaning toward a pull pull just for fun, but also like skyflyings one push rod method using the fairly hidden horn.

What are the real advantages of a pull pull anyway? Is that mainly a 3D advantage thing for flying with such large reflections and aerobatics?

Here's where I'm at with the pictures. 50 oz tank just fits...what are you guys using? Below the fuse in the first picture you can see the carbon inserts in the TE's -thanks Viper!

Matt

Hey there Skyflying

What kind of muffler is that you have on the Brison? Do you have to run it also inconjuction with the scale exhauts?

...and did you find the Sierra retracts really required thinning out the ribs...I'm doing some serious digging into the ribs with my Sierras!

Any idea where Arthur K is? Love to see how his Z-bird turned out.

best,
Matt

Hey Matt,

The muffler is custom made from a the owner of J'tec. Really nice guy to speak with I just forgot his name. Anyway if you call him up
he can build you one as well. "Do you have to run it also inconjuction with the scale exhauts?" The only way to hook up the system is from
a muffler with plumbing to connect the scale pipes. "did you find the Sierra retracts really required thinning out the ribs" Yup, thats why I added the carbon sheet to the ribs that hold the landing gear. I'd love to see Arthurs stang! I have no idea if it's finished or not. Post
pictures if your out there Arthur!

Hey

I'll give J'tec a call. Hey where did you get JZ 4 blade prop @ 24" ? No luck on line in my search. Have you used 4 blades before...any tips..I'm a newbie?

What size 2 blades have you used on the Brison 5.8 and for what type of bird?

It's coming together

thanks
Matt

Matt,

Zinger can be reached here: http://www.zingerpropeller.com/4_bladed_propeller.htm
If I have to use a standard prop it would be something like a 28X8 or 10.

Hey Wade

I just printed out those pics of your Sierra retract install because I have the same. I installed(not glued yet) a landing gear plate which runs 100% parallel to both the leading edge and 1/4" wing braces in the center (kind of like on the plan), which makes the retracts and struts sit 100% parallel also. First I thought that was a good thing...now I'm wondering maybe not?

Do you need the struts and retract to run downward at an angle towards the center of the wing so the strut pant fairings sit flush to the skin of the wing? I never done these types of retracts before and since it's a modification to the planned Robart retracts...maybe I'm missing something here? If so, what is that angle....it seems maybe the retract mount needs to 1/8-1/4 higher on the outer sides closer to the wing tip?
.
Any help or pictures would appreciated becaue it's one of those situations where you can't really turn back.

thanks
Matt

Hey Matt,

I just have one picture and its not the best I'll admit however it shows the gear in the wing. I used the plans to get the general
spacing correct and from then on I just used my imagination. I did try to get the gear as close to the leading edge as possible with
the thought of keeping the tire in the highest point of the ribs. What you want to look out for is the angle in which the gear is laying
in the wing. Your gear has to sit at an angle, (tire lower) in order for the tire to tuck deep enough in the wing to be hidden. Likewise
you need to insure you have the correct gear plate angle when the gear is extended. You want your legs straight, not toed in or out.
I hope this is all making some sense to you. So angle that gear plate so the end towards the tire is down lower then the top portion.

I assume that's the other way around? , Or you are talking about viewing the wing from the bottom i.e. the wing inverted ?
