I just learned that a local fishing rod manufacturer scraped a bunch of steel mandrels used in making their carbon fishing rods. I was told that they re-tooled their whole line so I'm guessing that there is a wide range of diameters, lenghts and tapers. I hope to go take a look this weekend. If anyone would be interested let me know and I'll keep in touch with my finds.

Joe

Hello Joe,

Hmm... After I sent the message, the RCU screen "glitched", so I'm not sure if you got my previous message. Let's try again.

I have a need for a specific size mandrel, if it becomes available. It should start at 2 1/2" diameter, and over a length of 28 inches, taper to a diameter of 1 1/8". (This could occur anywhere along the mandrel's length, and we could cut it where needed.) This would be used as the male plug, from which I'd mold a curved composite section for a (jet-style) leading edge flap mechanism I'm designing.

Also, just out of curiosity, I'd like to see the list of what is available, if you decide to compile one.

Thank you! Feel free to email me directly at: mikejames@nextcraft.com

Guys,
The mandrels are a bust. It looks like they picked them up with a clam shell and pushed them around with a blade. They were also out in the elements longer than I was lead to believe.
Bottom line is they are junk
