I am thinkin of building an Ultra Sport 40 + tail dragger using Dave Brown main wheel mechanical retracts and a Magnum .52 XLX. Are the struts heavy enough that you aren't bending them all the time?

I had a set and didn't like them. The biggest problem is that (Like most sets) the strut wire is too thin (5/32" - it should be 3/16")

The problem is, they can't be drilled out to fit a larger stut.

I can't really suggest another brand (Cause you can't get the type I use) but I would recommend staying away from the GPs

I have a pair on my old Tracer. They are OK; I've never had any problems with them.
But again, I fly off hard surface and Tracer's calls for short stubby struts.
If you fly off grass (or worse) or the plane requires high ground clearance, then they may be a problem for you.

Seems lot of people tourture the gear and have a lot of problems with them bending. The ultra sport will have a short gear like the tracer so I dont think it will be a problem. I am going to be moving soon and will have a hard surface runway when I get there. Im going to look at some other gear Dave Browns perhaps. Thanks guys for your input.

There's a large post in this forum about building an Ultra Sport Plus. The reason I mention this is that I believe someone tried to install these in that aircraft and had some problems. You can find the post by searching on "Ultra Sport + in stock".
