Status: offline 		i`ve been reading about the os .18 and alot of people who have bought it have said that it has alot of torque.i want to put it on my mt2 but from the forum i`ve heard that the torque of the engine will strain the diff.if i were to put a 15t or 16t clutch bell(the stock is 12t clutch bell and 52t spur gear)with the stock 52t spur gear will it lessen the torque that the engine will put on the diff.

Status: offline 		it should, does your truck have metal gears?, if not, your probably going to get some soon, i stripped my idler gear, well, the lhs owner, he drove my gt like a nut!, well, it will do wheelies, and i think that putting a larger tooth clutch bell on there will cause more stress, it will have less acelceration and more top speed, but with that engine, with a 20 tooth clutch bell on it, it will probably have more acceleration than the engine on it before, i think if you use the 15 or 16 tooth clutch bell, it should be ok,

Status: offline 		If you go to the HPI site you'll see they put a 15T clutchbell on their 18SS equipped NMT.

That is some good info. I have been running my MT2, equipped with a .18 OS, with the stock clutch bell 12T, love the speed, but I could see how a 15t would help with the reliability. They are a cheap part, so I think I will try one.

Status: offline 		Well then there are 2 points you haven't considered.

Higher gearing can be harder on the DT; just look at the savage.... it comes with a 15 tooth CB for off-road, and an 18t CB for "on road use only".... Think of free wheeling at high speed then getting traction.... with the tall gear it will pull the engine down, so you are working AGAINST your own torque. I could go further, but why?

The second thing is if you crash going faster you are gonna break more stuff.



To be fair my question was a bit of a troll.

Status: offline 		Won't the taller gearing transfer some of the strain on the differentials and transmission over to the engine and clutch? I think thats the focus of the question, although you do bring up some good points that also need to be in mind.
