Status: offline 		Hi Don,I am really interested in this plane...i fly IMAC in the Advanced Class and do fairly well,placing in the top 3.I have not flown Pattern before,but i am getting the urge to try it out.What would you recomend for an engine in this plane,and what class should i start out in?Also,where can i find info on contest in my area...the SE region,Thanks for your time,Joe

Status: offline 		Well, it depends, starting in Pattern, handling the Advanced sequence could easily put you at the level of FAI. However the competition may be keen depending on the contest you go to, so if you start in Intermediate or Advanced that could give you the chance to get your feet wet.

For the FOCUS II, the YS 140 DZ or YS 140 Sport should work well. I am most familiar with the YS engine characteristics and have had good luck with them.

Huntville is a great area to go to. There is a group of people who gather there on the 23rd of December that I may be able to link you up with. I know Jon Lowe also practices there. There is also a guy in Atlanta area named Bryan Kennedy who you should link up with.

What's happening the 23rd?! Unfortunately, I will be in FL with my parents. Are you going to be around Huntsville after Christmas? I will return on the 29th.

I'd like to get your opinion on a few things if I might. I'm in the process of deciding what airplane to get for the coming season. I've decided to support the friends I've made over the past years and support Piedmont by spending my money with the local team. I have two airframes to pick from. The Focus two (if still available) and the new Brio. I have a NIB 1.60DZ and have a OS 1.40FX that I can use for power. I'll be flying Advance this year. I was wondering which engine mount you'd suggest? I've run the Hyde mounts with and without the built in nose ring. I've broken the nose ring out of my Prophecy several times so I'm leaning towards using the mount with the built in ring. Any suggestions on the two airframes? Any mods that you'd do with the Focus 2? I've been asking myself do I really need the lastest and greatest airframe out there to fly Advance? Having to fly the new widebody airframes in windy conditions seems to be a chore that I'm not sure I really want to deal with.

Status: offline 		I've been using the Hyde mount, ARI type, with the built-in pitchfork nosering support. I've had good luck with this setup on my DZ/ FOCUS combo.

I believe there are Focus II ARC's in stock with Piedmont. Its a solid design and I'm flying mine a lot since the NATS with respect to maneuvers. It flies the rolling loop well, and circles ok. The point rolls, lines, and loops are great.

I am looking forward to flying the Brio next year. I flew one in some moderate crosswind last month, and it seemed to handle it very well.
