I have a 6 channel radio and would like to gang 4 5245MG's for a 26% plane. This would be 2 servos per aileron. I can use two channels but it uses the flap feature that limits the servo travel, so I'd prefer to not use that option (but I may end up having to). I'd like to use one channel on my rx to control all servos. I am handy with soldering electronics so making the harness is not an issue. I would make sure to use #20 wire on the main and #22 going to each servo. But I wonder if this is good practice.

I could also use a matchbox which controls 4 servos. But I will need a separate battery to power the matchbox and all 4 servos off one channel. Also it doesn't make sense to use programmable servos with a matchbox.

Since you make the only programmable servos I figured you would see this issue come up a lot. I'd appreciate any input you have.

I plan on using all Hitec servos in this ARF (8 total).

Futaba 6EXA tx
Futaba R127DF rx

(4) 5245 ailerons
(3) 5925 rudder and elevators
(1) 85MG
(1) 1700mah battery

Thanks

The 6EXA does not have a "FLAPERON" function? These programs drive the ailerons with two channels for right and left ailerons and flaps if so desired.

Yes the second line in my thread mentions that I could use this option but it limits the aileron travel and also the flap control dial can be bumped while you are flying. I don't use flaps on my 3D planes so it's not very useful to me. I would only use it as a last resort to use two channels for the 4 servos. Any other ideas?

thanks

I think you may have overlooked something in your TX programming and or setup, with regard to limiting the aileron deflection with the FLAPERON mode activated.

The flap % travel volume value can be zeroed to prevent bumping the knob inadvertently. Of course flaps are no longer a viable option @ 0%.

The travel percentage for aileron default setting is 100% ATV up and down and is independent of flap travel. You can turn ATV up past 100% to 120% maximum. Are you turning up the ATV on both channels, in both directions for up and down travel?

No I just read the manual again and there is no way to zero out the flaperon function. It is hardcoded that the flaps always follow the dial on the right top of the radio. When the flaps dial is centered, the aileron servos are limited 60% and 40% per the manual.

Are there any other ideas before I go and buy a more expensive radio? I can't live with 60 and 40% throws. That's why I always use a Y and disable the flaperon mix. But with 4 aileron servos, this is not possible.

I found an online manual and the 6EXA is limitied to the percentages you mention but the manual suggests full travel is achieved with full stick deflection, its kind of dubious so I don't really get it.

"Push the DATA INPUT lever until FP is displayed on the screen. Now the mixing is on. The servo travels will automatically be reduced to 60% and 40%, but full servo throw will still be achieved when the aileron stick and the flap control dial are moved to their full extremes."

How about the free P-Mix listed? It doesn't sound like trim is linked though.

Hitecs new Optic TX would solve the problem and then some.

All this means is that if the aileron stick is full deflection AND the flap knob is turned to full, that it will hit full servo travel. But you can't be turning the flap knob while you are controling the aileron stick so it's a useless for normal flight.

Yes I know, a new tx would solve the problem. I plan on buying one this spring.
