Status: offline 		The battery install will be next. The batteries from Batteries America should ship tomorrow. They make a sub C pack that drops in the Kraft TX battery box (takes two) and the same pack will slide inside the Kraft airborne battery case.

My 1977 Kraft 7C TX on AM, RCD AM receiver and Kraft battery.

Status: offline 		The Kraft airborne battery pack with the case removed and the old battery exposed. The black tape that was around the center of the pack keeps the halves together. I use black Monokote trim for the tape.

Status: offline 		Good news from the Batteries America. All Kraft TX battery packs that were 600mAh and RX battery packs that were 700mAh are now 1000mAh.

From their website “2/3 Sub-C 1000mAh (AP-1000SC) NOTE: These are AP-brand cells. Cell is about 1" tall & 7/8" diameter. KRAFT Transmitter = Two 4.8v SQUARE packs. KRAFT Receiver = One 4.8v "B" pack (two sticks of 2).”

Status: offline 		I received the correct batteries from Batteries America. If you are not experienced with electronics work and soldering don’t attempt this battery change. The transmitter can be easily damaged and the batteries can put out some amazing current if shorted. Needless to say if you reverse the red and black wires you will fry the transmitter.

The Kraft Series 77 transmitter uses two airborne backs wired in series. The transmitter has four screws on the side to remove the back and four screws on the bottom to hold the battery case. The battery case can be slid out on one side and the circuit board mount clamp removed by removing the retain screw. The last time I changed the batteries I used lose fitting heat shrink to cover the solder joins so I was able to just slide them back to make the new connections. After the packs are installed, reinstall the printed circuit board and slide the battery case back in place. There are a couple of wire bundles that need to be moved so they are on top of the case and not caught between the front of the case and the battery case. Replace the four screws on the battery case.

I always put a tag on the battery case with the install date and the mAh rating. Replace the back cover, charge the batteries and test the operation.

Status: offline 		The next task was changing out all the airborne packs. Batteries America sells packs without leads but I got them all with leads to simplify my order. The first task was cutting small openings in the heat shrink to remove the leads and then soldering on the original lead. I use a dab of silicone on the wire end to support the wire at the solder joint. After the soldering is done the battery pack is slid into the case and trim MonoKote used to tape the case.

              my name is Keith and i live in Lincolnshire England, i have just joined the site and read with interest that you have a Kwik fly kit. you might think me a little cheeky but would it be possible to get a copy of the plans, i built this model many years ago in my 20s ( now 58) whilst in the RAF stationed in Germany. I have been looking for some time for the plan but no luck in this country, I have been building models since i was 10 years old and the Kwik fly was one of the best models i have ever had, so if i can do anything for you i am more than happy to help.
Of course i am happy to meet all costs, plus this is a nice way to meet fellow modellers from across the Atlantic, if nothing comes from this i would like to mwish you and your family Merry Christmas and new year.

Keith,

The Howard Engineering kit has a fiberglass fuselage so I think what you want is the Top Flite wood kit plans. If you search the big action site eb*y using “Kwik-Fli Mk III” you will find plans for sale and they are located in the UK so that should make it easy for you.

Model Airplane News still sells the Kwik Fli MkIII plans. Go to their website and in the plans tab under the "Sport" section you'll find them. Also, Parkflyerplastics.com sells a canopy made from the Top Flite kit. Good Luck!

Status: offline 		Cool! If you spend enough time on the big auction site you eventually find what you need. A Du-bro baffle muffler for my Webra 61 Blackhead like I had on my original Kwik Fli III. Very clean bolt on and you can add extra baffles beyond the standard eight. I still have the original Webra 61 too (not pictured).
