I swear I've seen a post on this subject somewhere but I cant find it after doing many searches.
I just recently acquired a washer pump that I bought, didn't need, and can't return because its special order.
Will it work with glow fuel, has anyone tried to use one ?

thanks, Chris

I has tried, it works well 2-3 days before the washer pump was damaged of fuel. Not worth to buy washer pump. Better use original pump from hobbyshop.

I guess it depends on the type of pump then. I've been using one for years and never had a problem with it. They're not reversible though so it can't be used to drain a tank at the end of a day's flying.

Maybe I'll sell it on ebay, it doesnt sound like its worth the trouble. I paid $18 at Autozone, maybe I'll get 1/3 of that back.

thanks, Chris

If you cant send it back or sell it and you cant use it for anything else I would say go for it if it doesnt work to bad if does great.

As already stated, some work and others don't. Long ago I went that route and found one that would run in both directions. Still think a hobby pump is better.

The ones from German made cars work better with glow fuels. Search the junkyards.

I used one from autozone last season, and it work very well for 4-5 months. It didn't work well for draining the tank(in reverse),but it did get the job done. When it finaly broke(I think something jammed it and broke the impeller),I replaced it one from the hobby shop.It work the better part of one flying session!

I used one that I pulled from a wrecked Mercedes for more than 10 years, pumping glow fuel. It had brass gears in the pump and filled and emptied very well. The modern plastic impeller ones are almost useless. They don't last and you have to reverse your lines to empty the tank.
