I am working on a Skyshark Skyraider. It seems to be taking me an eternity, and could use some inspiration! Show pics and flying stories please!

Hellcat716 -> RE: Lets see your Skyshark Planes! (12/17/2004 6:50:08 AM)

Finished up the Skyshark ME-109 the other day. Started it on June 16 2004. Did not work on it every day so I wasn't trying to hard to finish it up soon. Was a very nice kit to build. I would highly recommend the Skyshark kits. Here are a few pictures of the finished product.

Hey thanks Hellcat. That looks nice. What did you cover it with? My first WWII Warbird was a Midwest 109. It had fixed gear and a tower .46. I hated how it flew. It always wanted to drop a wing hard when you slowed it down. I sold it quick before I wrecked it! The Skyshark Skyraider is the first .60 size Warbird with retracts I have ever tried to build. It is challenging. I am just trying to do at least a little something everyday. I know at that rate, it will eventually get done. Besides, winter in Minnesota is loooonnnnnnngggggg. How does your 109 fly?

Keep those planes commin'!

Hellcat716 -> RE: Lets see your Skyshark Planes! (12/17/2004 3:59:49 PM)

I covered it with monokote and sprayed the cowling with lustrekote. Installed a saito 100 with an apc 14x8 prop. It has spring air retracts with 3/8 inch oleo struts and robart 3x3/4 inch wheels. I have not had a chance to fly it yet. Will get it airborne soon. Weighs 8lbs 10 oz.

Nice job on the covering. Watch for mine to arrive at your house so you can cover it for me. [:D] Covering takes a lot of time! Good luck on its maiden flight.

Patience,Patience,Patience is what it takes. Do not be in a hurry. The end results are well worth the time it takes to do it right. Good luck and thanks for the compliments.

Here is the project so far....

Blue_Moon_ -> RE: Lets see your Skyshark Planes! (12/18/2004 4:39:51 PM)

sorry to say it but the skyrider is a pretty uggly craft (in my opinion) [;)]

Are the skyshark kits better then the topflight gold ed. kits?

ekir -> RE: Lets see your Skyshark Planes! (12/18/2004 5:10:50 PM)

Ye-Ha, hang in there. I built a Ziroli P-47 that seemed to take forever. Now I am glad that I stuck with it.

yee-ha -> RE: Lets see your Skyshark Planes! (12/18/2004 8:22:46 PM)

Hey thanks Blue Moon. Thats encouraging. Actually I sorta agree...... But everybody has a P-51 or a Corsair. Shyshark is in a league of there own compared to Top Flite.

Canuck1 -> RE: Lets see your Skyshark Planes! (12/18/2004 8:53:04 PM)

I have almost completed a Skyshark Val. Still lots to do. Next will be the red markings which should standout very nice on the white backing. I have also added the wing ordanance pylons, with the empty racks. The bomb you see is primered and almost ready for its final coat of black paint. I plan on attaching it to the centre of the wing, maybe it will be droppable, have not decided yet.

Craig.

Baldeagle -> RE: Lets see your Skyshark Planes! (12/19/2004 12:30:28 AM)

Craig What is the wingspan on your Val. Is it fiberglassed and painted? Good looking bird. Thanks Rich

yee-ha -> RE: Lets see your Skyshark Planes! (12/19/2004 1:27:08 AM)

Nice looking Val. I thought that kit was kinda spendy until you consider that you don't have to buy the retracts.

Canuck1 -> RE: Lets see your Skyshark Planes! (12/19/2004 8:32:51 PM)

The Val has a wingspan of 63in. It is all glassed with West Systems and .75 oz cloth. Has detailed panel lines and rivets throughout. The paint is Top Flite Lustercoat. The paint is good but the spray nozzle is not the greatest, wish they had a fan nozzle instead. I painted the meat balls on it today. I am still not to sure of the exact markings that I will use for the tail, as pictures are hard to find.

Craig.

Canuck1 -> RE: Lets see your Skyshark Planes! (12/20/2004 10:54:27 AM)

Here are a couple more pics. I got the tail markings done as well as the wheel pants. Next are the vertical lines on the fuse, then the long weathering process.

Craig.

Blue_Moon_ -> RE: Lets see your Skyshark Planes! (12/20/2004 10:55:16 AM)

Val + p51 @ 6 o clock = sitting duck! [:D][:D]

yee-ha, oh my god, yo have forgotten the fin! you need a fin to the stabilisator[:-]

Canuck1 -> RE: Lets see your Skyshark Planes! (12/20/2004 11:12:26 AM)

I guess it would be a sitting duck. Just put it together, it is starting to look good.

Craig.

Blue_Moon_ -> RE: Lets see your Skyshark Planes! (12/20/2004 11:30:18 AM)

thats a very sweet looking val, pretty neat! sems like you are a very confident builder. what engine and radio eqip are you planning to use in this lovely bird? one moore thing, is the vings area planked? i think the real thing only had some kinda "clothing" (like the zero).

randocommando -> RE: Lets see your Skyshark Planes! (12/20/2004 2:03:38 PM)

Hi everyone, I am building the new SkyShark Me 109G. I would post a picture but I do not know how. Can someone out there give me some instrauctions. I have a digital camera, I just need to know how to post a picture on this site. Thanks

Ham639 -> RE: Lets see your Skyshark Planes! (12/20/2004 4:48:44 PM)

My Hellcat and Tempest. Both great flyers, but the I like the Tempest better. The Hellcat Used a OS 70 FS for power and the Tempst used a worn out Magnum 80 FS. Both planes flew with authority. Both are fiberglassed and painted with Latex. Retracts were used on both.
Chuck

yee-ha -> RE: Lets see your Skyshark Planes! (12/20/2004 5:43:13 PM)

Ok Ok. If you really think it needs a tail, I guess I'll have to take the time and build one.......[:(]

Hey Skyshark! I know your listening.....When are you gonna have a place on your web page for all these gorgeous customer airplanes? Wow. Great work everybody. They look fantastic. I don't know if I should be inspired or intimidated! Keep the pics comming! [:D]

randocommando -> RE: Lets see your Skyshark Planes! (12/20/2004 8:52:51 PM)

Here are pictures of my 109G, a work in progress:

Ram-bro -> RE: Lets see your Skyshark Planes! (12/20/2004 11:14:52 PM)

HAMM639, beautiful job on those two. Your paiinting is magnificent. How about some painting and weathering hints.

kram51 -> RE: Lets see your Skyshark Planes! (12/20/2004 11:28:14 PM)

Here's my SS Dauntless. I've included the full working flaps and dive brakes, a bomb drop with working trapeze, retracts, open canopies topped off with two H9 pilots. I fly it with a ST51
